I know.
I had a hard time writing that headline without laughing.
But they are 4-1.
After a bad opening loss to GS, who is making everyone look bad, they have beaten Portland, the Clippers in LA, and swept a home and home with Denver....all potential playoff teams.
It's the Kings and it is early, but maybe Cousins has his head on right (finally), Gay can be healthy, and there is some backcourt support.

Any how, you gotta love talking about the Gay Cousins in Sacramento, right?

Their next dozen should tell you enough:

If they win 5 or 6 of those games I would be impressed

If I were a Kings fan I'd actually be kind of worried about McLemore's horrendous start. They could be a trade away from being in the playoff mix, I don't think they're there with their current roster.

Denver a potential playoff team? :pound:

You figure a team with a dominant young center would be better than what they are. Isaiah Thomas might have just been a bad fit for what they were doing (and what they were doing might have been a bad fit for Isaiah Thomas)

They are like the 76ers of last year when they started hot then faded away

Bad comparison. Kings have a nice 1-2 punch in cousins & gay along with actual nba players instead of some d league roster like the Sixers.

Collison & landry are solid nba players while they have 1st round picks from the last 2 years in stauskas & mclemore.

Philly did have Hawes, Thad Young, Evan Turner & MCW last year so it's not like they were a complete shit team before making those trades.

Cousins is a very good player, but he seems to be more about stats than winning. Same with Gay. I just don't buy it for even one second. No depth, horrible SG's and other than Cousins they don't have any bigs.

Have any of you watched any Kings games? If so you wouldn't be saying they will drop off. They are actually confident and playing as a group. They aren't playing a lot of isolation basketball. If they star out like maybe 10-4 or so I think people should take them seriously. If you think different, look at the Lakers they're terrible.

Taking them seriously to me doesn't equal a playoff bid. For me I look at taking them seriously means as a team who will finish slightly over .500 with 42-44 wins

Did you see their upcoming schedule I posted above. If they go .500 over the next dozen it will be time to take a look.

:agree: To me, taking them seriously means someone that you don't look at the schedule and just write it off as a win (disclaimer: this is in general, as a Pistons fan there is no team in the league that I can do that with).

BK you realize that you criteria only works in the West, in the East you would only take the top 3 playoff seeds seriously:pound:

"Taken seriously" should mean 'team that OKC has to worry about' when they get healthy and try to battle back. So imo the Kings are in that group. I dont think they are a serious threat if they make the playoffs at all but they are a threat to make the playoffs

Seriously as a contender or playoff team? No.

Seriously as an opponent? Definitely.

The Kings are dangerous with two stars in Gay and Cousins (although Boogie might be reaching that next level), but their team is not deep enough or well rounded to compete for a playoff spot. Aside from Stauskas(and he's not really ready, imo), they don't have any real outside shooting threats on the team. I like Landry and Sessions off the bench for them, but Thompson, Casspi, and McLemore will always be a hit or miss.

If teams don't take them seriously, the Kings will give you a run for your money. Their defense is much improved, but they don't have the roster to make a run sustainable.

Rudy Gay is still overrated. There's a reason Memphis and Toronto both wanted nothing to do with him.

I remember hearing that the rumor was that he had vision problems. But basketball is always about chemistry and he dominates the ball too much for teams not playing hero ball.

Allegedly the reason why the Kings let Thomas walk was because they had 'good numbers' when Gay and Cousins were on the court without Thomas hogging the ball.
