I would let him walk. If I read it correctly, it saves us 8 mil against the cap if we do.

We actually have a GM with a clue at the present time. Much like we didnt release Chris Chester until we were pretty sure we had an upgrade in house, if Garcon is released, it wont happen until after the draft next year once we see how the team is shaking out. We will likely roll about $4 million into next year from this years cap provided no one gets hurt and we end up having to get an expensive street FA. So we would sit at around $11 million in cap space before releasing Griffin. That move would put us at $27 million.... the down side is, we have a few key players likely needing to be resigned. Garcon might fall to the numbers game, but I dont think it will be an early move before the draft and FA have played out.

It's fine to let him walk, if you have a capable replacement ready. One who's tough, got great hands, and can block. Who might that be? Didn't I read last week Amari Cooper had more receiving yards than all other rookie 1st round 2015 WR draft picks (5 of them) combined. Drafting WR's is a crapshoot too.

You don't necessarily need to replace someone like Garcon with someone at the same position with equal or better skills. You could perhaps sign a lesser receiver for cheaper & apply the difference to other positions of need. Also - you could find other WRs in the subsequent drafts as others have alluded to in this thread. Everything doesn't need to be fixed right away.

This is kind of the Pats and formerly Eagles approach - get rid of expensive players just as they reach or pass their prime - we will see.

Wondering why you singled out Garcon? Cousins completed 20 passes to 9 receivers .... :noidea: Now I don't believe he is coming back at his current salary next year but he is a very good all around receiver. Not $10 million worth but still a productive receiver and one hell of a blocker. What would you say if he re-signed for $4 million? I am not suggesting he will but just wondering if money is the only reason you would let him go.

Agree with SoCal that you move players one year before they are done. You have to have someone with a track record to do that. Hopefully SM is the guy. Looks good so far.

Yep - Jackson yesterday showed why fans love him and also don't like him. He made the one big play & then later in the game looked like he might have incurred another injury (seems to be fine now). He will certainly be a big time threat but now appears to always be at risk for injury. Tough call for someone making that type of money. I am good either way.

Garcon is probably going to get released b/c of money issues. He is vastly overpaid. IF he was smart he would take a home town restricting deal to stay with us. The top four candidates for release are Rg3, hatcher, Roberts, and Garcon. There is no way we should release Jax. I know he gets paid and is injury prone but his ceiling is so high for big plays that can change a game in the NY minute.

What is interesting is that Jeffery if an unrestricted FA next year. We supposed to have a lot of money this year even after signing KC and Robinson. So to release Garcon and pickup Jeffery would be ideal.

Yeah, releasing PG will neither make or break the Skins one way or the other. He's a good player imo, but not good enough to be bending over backwards for or making any unnecessary or huge monetary concessions.

Like Dean, I also don't wanna see Jax released and would rather roll the dice keeping him over PG if it comes down to that. Jeffery doesn't sound bad at all either. He's young, 25, has an impressive skill-set, size, some speed, and he's produced. He's gonna wanna be paid though,

What are Jackson's numbers for next season? An argument could be made that the play of the game Sunday occurred on the third play. That bomb to DJax on 3rd down set them up and avoided a 3 and out deep in their own territory.

Name Pos. AS Base Salary(Gtd.) Prorated Bonus RosterBonus Workout Bonus Cap Number
DeSean Jackson WR 8 $3,750,000 $1,250,000 $3,750,000 $500,000 $9,250,000

Cutting him would save us around $7 million.

Washington Redskins 2016 Salary Cap

There you go. It seems as if collectively these guys will eat up @ $20M in cap space next season while Garcon would eat up less cap space if they let him go.

We've been looking for a bigger WR since Art Monk. They have $25 million tied to 3 WRs when Roberts is included. Obviously he's gone but I'm honestly on the fence about which of the other 2 I would release. As we've seen it's not so easy to find a FA WR that will be cheaper and as good or better. Look at the Eagles wide receivers, don't want to be in that situation. Crowder is a nice player but does anyone see him as a future game changer? To be honest I would have preferred my MD guy Diggs who is making big plays in Minnesota because he has more speed.

Now before this gets out of hand I'm not criticizing Crowder, love the guy. Just doesn't have the speed or size to be anything but a complimentary WR IMO. But with the right #1 WR besides him he could be a great #2.

Some folks appear to completely ignore the fact that Garcon is a very good blocker. I agree that perhaps they might need to move on without him. However - this idea that it is a no brainer & that he basically brings nothing to the table is absurd. Some of you need to educate yourselves on the game of football.

Who said he brought nothing to the table?

Am I understanding from Redskins fans that Garcon has not "served" his purpose ?

Not really - he has actually contributed a lot to this team (not always but that is true for a lot of players). It is basically a money situation & being able to justify keeping both him & Jackson for that large amt of money while other areas of the team need to be addressed.
