Is it embarrassing for a founding NFL franchise to have the #1 pick in the draft

If you're a fan of a team whose original owner and basically one of the founding fathers of the NFL to have the #1 pick in the draft after having over 100 years to figure out how to be competitive in that league and not be the worst team in the league?

Asking for several friends.

What if the family of that original owner still own the franchise?

It's a passing league now and the QB that basically made the forward pass a huge staple of the game was your franchise QB, but you haven't had one of those since he retired over 50 years ago.

I will say drafting Justin Fields and then giving him nothing to work with is a waste. They have the potential to bounce back quickly, though.

I would say the Arizona Cardinals are the most embarrassing and they're an older franchise iirc

no they have 10 HOFs picked in the 1st round plus they have had the #1 pick 2 other times which is the same amount for the packers

They're the same age....just the Cards and Bears, the Packers joined one year later

I don't disagree in reality, but this is a message board and we'll have none of that reality talk on here, damn buzzkills.

Ah, I meant older relative to the league and not the Bears. I mistyped there

It's been a lot longer than 50 years since the Bears have had anyone you could call a "Franchise" QB if we're talking about the Bears.

No. Bears intentionally tore it down, this was expected.

I still think packer fans are in for an awakening soon

Packers seem to draft fairly well. They definitely have underachieved this year, though, and that could be a bad sign.

They've benefitted from 30 years of HOF QB play which is nearing an end.

A lot of their pieces they have in place could put them in a 'Colts' zone, too, (post Luck) where they have some talent but not at the right positions.

Its astounding their defense was on par with KCs this year. We were working in 2 rookie CBs, had to trade one vet CB away. One of our LBers was suspended for a stretch. Working in a rookie pass rusher. Bolton a year 2 LB. Thornhill taking over Honey Badgers role. KCs D really had to rebuild. Green Bays defense was supposed to be built and good.

Sure, but that is hard to sustain.

GB DC isn't good.

Full disclosure I'd expect GB to be more like Vikings of late than browns.

If that makes sense

Im going to go out on a limb and say you've been telling yourself this since 1998...then the Anderson kick went wide and your dream recurs annually

Not true at all

I'm not predicting GB will go to being terrible but closer to Vikings than consistent nfc contenders. Having HOF QB covers up a lot of warts

But I don't think GB is so incompetent they'll turn into browns.

Go look at patriots without Brady. Not awful but not force they were.

Of course patriots won few more SB in recent years than GB.
