At first glance his numbers look okay.

But according to profootball-ref.com he led the league in int's (16) and fumbles (12).
Sure, but when you consider their backup QB is Kyle Trask?

They would have gone like 2-15 or 3-14 (maybe) if Mayfield had gotten hurt badly and missed the rest of the season in their first game.

It’s absurd to call Baker a bust, he’s a very good QB. He’s led the Bucs to two straight division titles and has played very well both years. I guarantee the Browns wish they had stuck with Baker instead of giving washed up Watson a huge deal. I like Baker and think he’ll continue to have success in Tampa - the loss yesterday certainly wasn’t on him.

LOL

Our division sucks. He would have been the 4th best QB in the division if he was still on the Browns with multiple games against better teams and QB's. He doesn't even make the playoffs at all if not for being in a weak conference.

He fumbled the ball in the 4th with the game on the line. He is a mid scrub who got clapped by a rookie. It is what it is

I think @ElPatron1's idea is that if you don't have a QB who can win you a super bowl, you should tank.

I mean did we have a realistic chance of winning? If the answer is no, you are wasting your time. Some people don't want to hear the truth and get caught up in the drama. Some people are happy and will willingly spend money even to see a bad product. A lot of football owners know this...

Sometime a team can be so good that a QB is less important, then it's more copeable

Of the top 4 QBs in the league, only 1 has won a Super Bowl and two haven't even been.
Mahomes been to the Super Bowl 4 of the last five years, and the team roster been ever changing, before him Tom Brady keep going to Super Bowls. When Brady left that was the end of super bowl appearances for the Patriots but Brady new team went to the Super Bowl. This why folks think having the best QB matters.

LOL Baker is definitely better than Russell Wilson. Yeah Burrow and Lamar are better than him but Burrow and Lamar are elite top 5 QBs in the NFL. Baker is a good QB, he’s just not elite, he’s arguably top 5 in the NFC right now. He’s not a scrub, and Daniels is a very good QB, rookie or not. You just sound bitter over your loss last night.

A lot of people would've said Peyton Manning or Josh Allen were better QBs for a large chunk of the time but yeah.

I do think a top 5 QB is the shortcut to getting to the NFCCG or AFCCG. From there I do think you need team building. But the Niners could've easily beaten the Chiefs in the past two Super bowls.

If Bosa just rushes instead of a twist than Mahomes doesn't have time to throw Wasp and the Niners win the first meeting. Or if there was a penalty or drop on that play.

2nd SB? They didn't block Chris Jones on a major play. I don't think that alone causes them to win but it keeps them from losing.

Yeah there were a few key plays in both games that had they gone another way the Niners could’ve won both. I think in the first one, had the Niners called more rushing plays in the 4th quarter and run more clock and potentially gotten a few more 1st downs they might’ve won, Shanahan called a lot of pass plays and Jimmy G kept throwing incompletions, stopping the clock and forcing them to punt quickly.
Last year’s game was very evenly matched, if the Niners had played a better 3rd quarter they would’ve had a good chance to win, they failed to capitalize on the one Mahomes turnover, there was the muffed punt that led to Mahomes throwing a TD on the next play and there was the missed XP. So yeah both games were very close.

Dude has been in the league for 7 seasons and has the 2nd/3rd most TDs for 2024. Kind of hard to call someone a "bust" when they've been around for this long as a starter and still putting out decent stats. Is he the best QB, no, is he a decent QB that can get you to the playoffs, sure, done it with 2 different teams now. He was a Heisman winning QB in college and an above average QB in the NFL with multiple starts and pretty decent stats. Thread needs to be retired.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan is 0-5 against the Chiefs

Woulda coulda never seems to win any of those "easy" wins, odd...Maybe it was never easy.

The Chiefs had 2 Ints in that first game IIRC. They could've easily won it. The second game went to OT. Its not rocket science here.

That said, yeah, Mahomes is uniquely gifted at come behind wins. If your plan was to get rid of Baker Mayfield to find the next Mahomes then you might be waiting awhile. Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence, Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer. Those were the 4 highest rated college QB prospects in recent memory IIRC. Joe Burrow probably in the top 10 so a team could've seen him coming. Thats rare. Josh Allen not so much. Certainly not Lamar Jackson. Goff was about the same level as Baker IIRC.

So all you need to do is find a Hall of Fame head coach and a Hall of Fame QB.

I mean we did it before just recently lol

The point is if Baker isn’t good enough to win for us now all we are doing is delaying the enviable rebuild and losing out on picks. That was the entire point. Baker is not good enough to win against the top QB’s and he is older than them. Cut him loose like the last 2 franchises did was my point.

That's not really how life works. Your coach won't voluntarily make his team worse to get everyone fired.

It's a dumb point

It’s called tanking, it’s done in all sports. Sometimes it’s better to admit reality and rebuild, then hold on to false hope. Baker ain’t winning jack, and that’s just a fact. That’s just me tho

The coach doesn’t have to do anything, you trade and start a rookie QB
