He is just mid

Won't help your team win and can't rebuild because you won't get draft picks
It's interesting, this notion that teams should either have a top-ten QB or trash so they can try to draft one.

I think top ten is kind of a meaningless distinction right now. For me, its 'do you trust your QB if you draft well and coach well?' and with Baker its yes.

He is also technically a bust like Goff and Darnold since he isnt on the team that drafted him. But its not Baker's fault the team isnt still playing.

I think @ElPatron1's idea is that if you don't have a QB who can win you a super bowl, you should tank.

It’s absurd to call Baker a bust, he’s a very good QB. He’s led the Bucs to two straight division titles and has played very well both years. I guarantee the Browns wish they had stuck with Baker instead of giving washed up Watson a huge deal. I like Baker and think he’ll continue to have success in Tampa - the loss yesterday certainly wasn’t on him.

while I liked the deal at the time and my guess is any NFL team needing QB at the time takes Watson over Baker (as evidenced by offers for each).....but 100% agree Browns would undo that deal if we could and just keep Baker. and, no, he's not a bust by any stretch.

I agree and for some reference this thread was made in 2019 so take that into account.

I don’t think he was a bust then either but people are impatient

Give me a solid QB that doesn't break the bank and then invest in an OL that can protect him and open holes in the run game.

Yeah people get way too impatient with QBs these days - everyone expects them to come out looking like Mahomes did when he started, or like Stroud did in his strong rookie season, and if they don’t people are quick to label them a bust. It’s totally absurd.

I know. His opinion is a popular one, though.
Look at the Panthers right now. They had Sam Darnold, DJ Moore, Christian McCaffery, Chuba Hubbard, Curtis Samuel. Feels like thats more than enough foundation to work on as long as you figure out everything else. Instead they went chasing waterfalls and they have their franchise QB after two years but also the worst defense in football

At first glance his numbers look okay.

But according to profootball-ref.com he led the league in int's (16) and fumbles (12).

I remember him stiff arming Nick Bosa all the way from midfield to the sidelines and still tossing for a 13 yd 1st down. He won me over there.

And I like his rushing style, no slides.

Don't have many good things to say about him. Be he is a competitor.

You have to look at the overall return rather than individual stats or plays. I'd take 41 TDs, 16 INTs, and 12 fumbles every time over something like 25 TDs, 10 INTs, and 8 fumbles, (which would also be a very strong season).

Pro-fooball-reference dot com rated his season value at 17, which is kinda-sorta ProBowl level or 'outstanding'. For reference they rated his previous best 2 seasons at 14 for 2020 and 13 for 2023. I have found their seasons value ratings for QBs to be a useful comparative tool. Obviously its drawback is being heavily based on the number of appearances rather than purely the quality of appearances.
