Is Baker Mayfield a Bust?

Easiest TD in history a bit extreme. Hell, Wilson missed a wide open guy in EZ last night. But that play needs to be made.

shane is right, though...he made a number of pinpoint, laser throws to covered receivers his critics (not saying you) will dismiss.

answer to OP is a resounding no. Is he elite? Nope. But he isn't a bust.

If Baker is really nothing more than a game manager, wouldn't he be considered a bust as the #1 overall pick?

I guess....but idea he is a game manager is absurd. IF he fails in this offense it will be because he is NOT a game manager.

That really depends on a lot of factors. I mean even if he turns out to be a "game manager"...what if leads the Browns to the playoffs or even a Super Bowl in the future? People will say it doesn't have a lot to do with him but he is still the QB. Leading the Browns to 8 wins so far is pretty remarkable. They seem to have the best running game but an overall pretty bad defense, one of the best OL's. Just a lot of factors bc #1 picks usually don't work out.

If you think about it this way he could already be labeled a success SO FAR in his career just bc it's the Browns.

Game manager narrative placed on him is absurd. What were the complaints early in the season? He was taking chances and being picked when easier plays were there to be made. Guy has been throwing downfield a lot, especially last 2 games (9.3 and 8.9 yards/attempt).

Now it's true when all goes well Stefanski offense might be better served by game manager traits, and Baker does seem like he's taking to his coaching.

This whole narrative needs to be put on hold for awhile until we see what Baker really is or isn't. They have a coach now and this is the first year with him. Let's see how it plays out over a couple seasons. Then get back to this and figure it out.

It's 4 and 5 counting Pitt at 8-8 BUT you are right...I will say the Browns in general are a young team though, they will turn a corner when they can beat the playoff caliber teams. They have overall one of the worst defenses...still gotta wait to see. We can't call a guy a bust this early, should find out soon though.

Luckily the guy who matters - Stefanski - is not afraid to have Baker win the game for us if it's what D is giving us.

He was nearly flawless.

Don't like foot coming off gas, but common in all sports with a huge lead. Would be nice if WRs caught the perfectly thrown passes on 3rd down.

he'll say bad pass defense. weird as he loves their coach if memory serves.. so a great coach known as a defensive guy cannot stop Baker from throwing?
