There's also a possibility Cespedes still signs with us...and if that fizzles out Sandy might just stand pat with what/who we have currently and depending on where we are in the standings by July try to sign someone via trade.
And there's always the waiver wire buzzing right after after spring training.

But yeah..as if Mets fans needed any more reason or motivation to hate the friggin Nats.

Well boys, we still might be in it:

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal cites two sources who both believe free agent Yoenis Cespedes would prefer to stay with the Mets.

The decision facing Cespedes, per Rosenthal, is between the financial security offered by the Nationals -- who are reported to be willing to give the 30-year-old a five-year deal -- and the comfort of returning to Queens, where he led the Mets to the World Series last October. The Mets are presently willing to go three years, but no more, on a deal with Cespedes. Other teams have been rumored to be involved, but at this point it appears the outfielder's choice will come down to one of the two NL East clubs.

It's not done yet!!

Mets and Cespedes discussing a three-year deal with opt-out after year one! And he prefers NY to Washington.

Pull this trigger, guise...this is probably the most reasonable arrangement for everyone.

How goes it, Hu? Long time no see....
Good holidays and all?......everything's cool with you?

Yeah, Sandy has to do this deal.

It would really suck big time if those gnats were to get 2 of our starting players from the WS team less than 4 months later. Losing Murphy was bad enough, but somewhat tolerable after we got Walker. Losing Cespy would be brutal without a viable replacement.

Doin well, man, hope you are, too!

Yeah...losing Murphy would have been much easier to stomach if he had gone ANYWHERE other than Washington. Should be another interesting division race.

Yep.....but hopefully his glove bites them in the ass, like it has for us over the years.
I was hoping he'd have gone to the Yanks instead.

btw: pitchers & catchers is only 26 days away....

Realistically if we signed Cespedes you have to consider that a great offseason no?

Upgraded the middle infield defensively, solidified the bullpen and added depth to the bench. Hopefully find some diamonds in the rough on spring training tryouts etc. Need to sign Cespedes though.

100%. Would put us right up there with the Cubs for the best off-season. Hey added a lot, they're gonna be who we need to overcome in the playoffs, Nats, with Murph, don't scare me. Nats with Cespedes? Well, they do. I hope he's just using the Nats as leverage to get a better offer from the Mets. All resports are saying how he doesn't want to leave here.

Like Steve Gelbs said on his FB page. And i'm using his words loosely since I don't have the direct quote, but he said. With Flores' tears about potentially being traded, Wheeler personally calling Sandy about not wanting to be traded and the apparent news of Cespedes wanting to stay here, there is quite the atmosphere being built in Flushing!

It's a good time to be a Mets fan!!

Carlos Torres gets DFA

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets designated right-hander Carlos Torres for assignment Friday, clearing a 40-man roster spot as fellow reliever Antonio Bastardo's two-year, $12 million contract became official.

Torres, 33, recently had avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $1.05 million contract. The Mets have a week to trade him. If they are unsuccessful, Torres must be placed on waivers, where he would figure to get claimed.
Torres went 5-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 59 appearances for the Mets in 2015.

Minus Torres, the bullpen in April may consist of Jeurys Familia, Bastardo, Addison Reed, Jerry Blevins, Hansel Robles, Erik Goeddel and Sean Gilmartin. Robles, however, is due to begin the season with a three-game suspension for throwing near the head of Philadelphia's Cameron Rupp last season. Josh Edgin, returning from Tommy John surgery, may open the season on the disabled list and be ready in May.

Free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes has reached agreement on a 3-year, $75M deal with the Mets, per ESPN's Jim Bowden and multiple reports. The deal is pending a physical. The Mets traded for Cespedes in July, and he helped guide them to the World Series.

Cespedes gets $27.5M in the first year of a 3-year $75M dollar deal with the Mets with a first year opt out.
