Report are that the Orioles have made Cespedes a 5 year offer for around 75-90 mil. I think that's a little below the market, isn't it?

Not sure how true it is, could be a media created story, but apparently Cespedes is a bad teammate. People think he's a dick.

I've heard those stories too, from both Oakland and Boston.

I haven't heard any of that. In fact, except for maybe 1 or 2 coaches... most if not all his teammates he's had in Oakland,Boston & Detroit...as well as w/ the Mets have liked him.
I think it's just another case of the media creating smoke where there's no fire.

That being said...if he does agree to sign with the O's....maybe Sandy turns his focus to Justin Upton?
Jay Bruce is still being shopped by the Reds too.

And we re-signed Harvey and Tejada

The Mets have agreed to deals with Matt Harvey and Ruben Tejada, avoiding arbitration.
Harvey will earn $4.325 million in 2016, according to Anthony DiComo (Jan. 15), while Tejada has signed for $3 million, reports Matt Ehalt (Jan. 15).

In 2015, Harvey started 29 games and posted a 2.71 ERA and 1.019 WHIP. He also posted a 3.04 ERA over four starts in the playoffs and World Series.
Harvey earned $614,125 in 2015, according to Baseball-Reference (Jan. 15).

Tejada hit .261 with a .338 OBP and .350 SLG over 407 plate appearances in 2015. He had six plate appearances in the playoffs before suffering a broken leg. He reportedly earned $1.88 million last season.

The Mets have settled with three of their arbitration-eligible players. Addison Reed receives $5.3 million in his final season before free agency. First-time arbitration eligible relievers Carlos Torres ($1.05 million) and Josh Edgin ($625,000) also settled.

Rumor is it is between the Mets and White Sox for the leaders in the clubhouse. I hope he stays here.

METS REMAIN IN CESPEDES HUNT

Given New York's need for an impact bat, ESPN analyst Jim Bowden isn't ruling the Mets out when it comes to signing Yoenis Cespedes.

OLNEY: METS FACING PRESSURE ON CESPEDES

Although its apparent that New York is comfortable with Yoenis Cespedes signing elsewhere, the pressure the team is getting from fans to re-sign him is "intensifying," according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Justin Upton is now off the market.....

The Detroit Tigers and free-agent outfielder Justin Upton have agreed to a six-year deal worth $132.75 million, a source told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

The contract includes an opt-out after the second year, which would allow Upton to go back on the market as a free agent at age 30, a source confirmed to Crasnick.

A three-time All-Star, the 28-year-old spent the past season with the San Diego Padres and batted .251 with 26 homers and 81 RBIs.

With Upton agreeing to move to Detroit and Chris Davis agreeing to re-sign with the Baltimore Orioles....
Yoenis Cespedes is left as the biggest bat on the free-agent market.

Upton, who is expected to play left field, will join a Tigers team looking to win now. After a disappointing 74-88 campaign, owner Mike Ilitch opened up his wallet this offseason, having also signed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann to a five-year, $110 million contract.

Upton and Zimmermann will join a Tigers team that will expect bounce-back seasons from Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander, who both battled through injuries in 2015.

Last season was a bit of a struggle for Upton as well. The right-handed slugger batted just .191 and hit only three of his 26 home runs against left-handed pitching.

He might, however, enjoy his new home ballpark. Upton, who has spent his entire career in the National League, has hit .324 in nine games at Comerica Park. That is his third-best batting average in any stadium in which he has played a minimum of five games.

That should eliminate the Tigers from the Cespedes running, should be down to us and the White Sox, let's hope we win that battle!

Pretty sure the tigers were never interested in bringing him back anyway....

The Wilponzi's/Sandy Alderson would be wise to work out something along the lines of the Justin Upton deal w/ his agent.
They have the revenue to do it.
Hopefully they don't want to start "slumming" it all over again.

I"d love to know where the Wilpons are financially at this point. They've clearly pulled back the baseball spending, they got a month of free revenue from the playoffs. If their finances are not in order at this point it's a joke.

WHO WILL SIGN YOENIS CESPEDES?

Given the multiyear deal Justin Upton secured -- which Cespedes will surely try to top -- the Mets and Astros don't appear to be likely suitors. Meanwhile, the White Sox and Angels are logical fits but might not be willing to spend the money.

Even though we were terrible for most of the "worst team money can buy" years, I do miss our ability to sign guys. A decade ago we would have signed Clippard, Bastardo and Cespedes no problem and called it an offseason.
