I wish I had the confidence in them to sign or trade for somebody to help us, but I doubt they will.

With the exception of bringing in a vet reliever I don't see any other noticeable moves being made this offseason (unfortunately).

So the rumblings are that Cespedes is still in play if it's a 1 year deal as no serious players have stepped up for his services. Is it possible teams are finally shying away from long term deals for guys over 30?

Would love to bring Clippard back or bring in Bastardo. Having a bullpen with one of those two, Familia, hopefully a healthy Blevins as well as Montero (hopefully another Familia/Mejia type, you know without the whole PEDs thing). Would give us 4 or 5 solid relievers.

I'd love to see Clippard back.

I would give Cespedes 3 yrs...and possibly backload 1. If we can't land him, Justin Upton is also available for a few yrs, but he won't be for long because the yanks, orioles, cards & dbacks are in the hunt for a corner OF.

I'm still undecided on Clippard right now.
I'd pass on Bastardo though...don't think he'd be a good fit team chemistry wise.

Problem is I think a 3 year deal for Cespedes would hurt him more than help. If he takes a 1 year deal for a lot of money he could still cash in on a contract next year. If he signs a 3 year deal he'll be a free agent while he's on the decline so his value would be lower. It's all about maximizing his earning potential.

I realize that..trust me...but somewhere at some point the 2 sides need to meet halfway, or at least close to it...
and deep down I think he wants to remain a met......so it's all about compromise and the Wilpon's willingness to negotiate.

Hmm...I'm just speculating here, but perhaps the Rockies are looking to deal with the Mets instead of the Cards for one of their outfielders? Blackmon might be interesting. Not a basher, but very nice base running skills and he isn't exactly bereft of power.

What would be the cost, I wonder?

I'd give them Mejia and some shake shack coupons....lol

Soooo, apparently, the Mets would be interested in bringing back Cespedes on a 2-3 year deal. Let's hope they pony up the money.

The Mets continue to keep in contact with free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes, but re-signing him is still considered unlikely until he's willing to accept a short-term deal, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin said on Twitter (Jan. 14, 3:35 pm).
Similarly, WFAN's Mike Francesa said on air that there is no truth to rumors that the Mets and Cespedes are close to agreeing to a one- or two-year deal (Jan. 14, 3:15 pm).
