Not sure if you guys heard the news about Wilmer Flores breaking his ankle during a Venezuelan winter league game a few days ago. He got hit by a pitch on the inside part of his left ankle and the x-rays confirmed a break unfortunately. The team has indicated he'll be ready for spring training but you just never know...so the Cabrera move seems to make some sense from an insurance standpoint, and he's got more pop in the bat than does the other SS, Ruben Tejada. I like the move, and also the Walker addition.

As far as another OF goes....They're looking at and considering Denard Span from what I've read to possibly platoon w/ Juan Lagares.

If Denard is healthy, that's a damn good add.

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets made it official Friday, announcing the signing of free-agent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to two-year contract with a team option for 2018.

The deal guarantees Cabrera $18.5 million.

Cabrera, a 30-year-old switch hitter, hit .265 with 15 homers and 58 RBIs in 505 at-bats for Tampa Bay Rays in 2015.

Cabrera and newly acquired Neil Walker will form the middle infield for the Mets, with Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada serving as backups.

*(I'm also hearing there's a possibility we could re-sign Cespedes...which would be awesome imho)

Or we could spread that money around. Either or.

If they could rework that 6yr down to a 5 or 4yr deal, they should do it in a heartbeat.....but it all depends on how firm he & his agent are going to be. Plus, being a popular player in NY will bring him endorsements that potentially would be worth even more over the course of the deal and then some.

Man, I hate to be a wet blanket but I still see the Wilpons going as cheap as they possibly can. I'm thinking they want Conforto in there full time and give him on the job training against lefties and working on his defense.

It's being reported that Dexter Fowler is also on the Mets' radar in addition to Span & Parra.

*I'd be happy with any of them.

I dunno about Dexter. If he could never shine in Colorado...:noidea:

Mets re-sign Jerry Blevins
Lefty reliever Jerry Blevins re-signs with Mets

Reliever Matt Albers may be a match of the Mets
NEW YORK (12/15)-- As the New York Mets look to upgrade their bullpen with a couple of veteran arms to handle the later innings, right-handed reliever Matt Albers ultimately may end up being a match.

The Mets have shown serious interest in Albers in the past, and are expected to do so again this offseason.

Albers, 32, went 2-0 with a 1.21 ERA in 30 appearances for the Chicago White Sox in 2015. He missed three months of the season with a broken pinkie on his right hand, which he suffered during an April brawl with the Kansas City Royals.

Albers did not allow an earned run after July 31. He has the longest active scoreless innings and appearance streaks in the majors (22 1/3 innings, 20 appearances). He also had one of the top groundball rates among free-agent relievers.

METS HAVE TARGETS IN MIND
In a crowded outfield market, New York appears to be focused on Dexter Fowler and Denard Span. The Mets may need to wait until the big names sign to land either one.
