NEW YORK (11/3)-- After leading the New York Mets to their first National League pennant in 15 years, manager Terry Collins has a new two-year contract, according to sources.

Collins, 66, had been in the final guaranteed year of his existing deal this season.

The new contract is expected to be formally announced Wednesday, when general manager Sandy Alderson and Collins will meet with the media at 11 a.m. ET at Citi Field.

This likely will be Collins' final contract as a manager. He has indicated an eagerness to retire after managing a couple of more seasons.

"I think it's well deserved," captain David Wright said. "Credit should be given to TC and his coaching staff for aiding and preparing us for this success. This preparation started years ago, and I'm thrilled this coaching staff has helped lead us to a World Series appearance."

Collins just became the second-oldest first-time manager in World Series history. Only Jack McKeon at age 72 in 2003 with the Marlins was older.

After leading the Mets to their first pennant in 15 years, Terry Collins has agreed to a new two-year deal to remain as manager.

Collins guided the Mets to a 90-72 record this season, snapping the organization's string of six straight losing seasons.

His career record with the Mets is 394-416 in five seasons. He also managed three years apiece with the Angels and Astros in the 1990s.

Collins already has been voted by his peers as the NL Manager of the Year in a poll by the Sporting News. He will be a contender for the official Baseball Writers' Association of America award to be announced on Nov. 17, with other candidates including the Cubs' Joe Maddon and Cardinals' Mike Matheny.

Collins has noted he has become more of a player-friendly manager with the Mets than during his tenures with the Astros and Angels two decades ago.

"My job is to pretty much make sure the players are on board with everything we're doing," Collins said during the World Series. "So I think I've changed a lot there."

Matt Harvey-for-Mookie Betts would be a good fit for Mets

Interesting, not sure I would feel to comfortable about losing Harvey. We are going to need to find some bats this offseason.

I'm not sure how much ownership is willing to spend on a bat so the trade route may be our only way to get an impact player. Of the big guns Harvey is probably the one I would trade simply because of the distraction/potential cancer aspect as well as the fact that Boras will make it so that we have no chance of signing him. Let's hope Matz takes the next step and Wheeler can come back at some point and be a contributor.

If we are going to move a pitcher, Harvey for Betts is not a bad deal at all.

Did you guys see where the Braves wanted DeGrom or I think it was Matz for Andrelton Simmons? I got a good laugh outta that.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (12/9)-- The New York Mets are close to signing free-agent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera. The move comes on the heels of the Mets landing second baseman Neil Walker from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jonathon Niese. It will effectively complete the Mets' infield remake.

Cabrera will receive two years and an option from the Mets that guarantees $18.5 million. He will need to undergo a physical, so the deal is not expected to be imminently announced.

Cabrera, a 30-year-old switch hitter, batted .265 with 15 homers and 58 RBIs in 505 at-bats for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015. He nearly exclusively played shortstop, but also has experience at second base.

The move gives the Mets an infield of Lucas Duda, Walker, Cabrera, Wilmer Flores, Ruben Tejada and David Wright. Presumably, Cabrera will get the bulk of the time at shortstop.

Still, because Cabrera, Flores and Tejada are capable of playing multiple infield positions, the Mets will have plenty of versatility. The team valued having veterans such as Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe on the roster last year, and Cabrera's presence should have a similar positive impact regardless of his role. Cabrera's addition does mean that Dilson Herrera likely will be relegated to Triple-A Las Vegas to open 2016.

I do like the moves. Now focus on finding a compliment/replacement for Lagares in center and bulk up the bullpen. Maybe sign a vet starter that can eat innings as the number 5 guy.

I like the Walker move. Not sure how I feel about the Cabrera signing. Seems...redundant?
