NEW YORK -- The New York Mets have put second baseman Daniel Murphy on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right calf and promoted infielder Dilson Herrera from Double-A.

The Mets made the moves Thursday night after a 6-1 loss to Atlanta.
Murphy had a MRI, and additional information was expected to be available on Friday.
"It's frustrating," Murphy said. "It ended up being a little worse than I thought. It's frustrating to the other 24 guys in here. It's always nice to stay off the DL. I have to be smart about it and try to get healthy."
The 20-year-old Herrera was called up from Double-A Binghamton. He was hitting a combined .319 with 12 home runs and 70 RBIs at Double-A and Single-A.

The Mets acquired Herrera last year in the trade that sent Marlon Byrd and John Buck to Pittsburgh. Herrera primarily has played second base.

Pretty impressive he's skipping over AAA. I won't put too much pressure on him now but it would be amazing if he could hold his own for the next month. Would give me a lot more confidence if/when we trade Murphy.

An ugh...(disappointing)
Murph may miss most of remaining games - Mets Blog - ESPN New York

and a shrug
....(meh...we all knew better)
NEW YORK -- With their next loss, the Mets will be mathematically eliminated from achieving 90 wins -- a target Sandy Alderson shared internally with team personnel during spring training.

The GM's reaction?

“It wasn’t a goal," Alderson said pregame Friday. "I don’t know how many times I have to reinterpret that for everybody. It wasn’t a goal. It wasn’t an expectation. It was a reminder to all of us, including myself, that we need to think about that level of performance, that level of success, that level of excellence. So the statement is no less relevant today than it was then.”

The Mets enter their series opener against the Phillies at 62-72, a half-game ahead of Philadelphia for fourth place in the NL East.

Sigh...I liked signing Grandy, money notwithstanding, but this does not bode well for the future. .171 since the All Star break...he's on the road next week, watch him come around. Not a good fit for that Hitter's Hell the Mets play in.

NEW YORK --Today.... Sunday, 8/31 is the final day for a trade to occur and the player to be eligible for the acquiring team's postseason roster. Still, the Mets continue to expect the deadline will pass without a trade involving Bartolo Colon or anyone else, a team insider told ESPNNewYork.com.

Expansion plans: Rosters expand Monday, but do not expect a big wave of call-ups immediately. Third catcher Juan Centeno, who is on the 40-man roster, should join the Mets soon, if not precisely on Monday. Longer term, right-handers Rafael Montero, Gonzalez Germen and Erik Goeddel -- all of the 40-man roster, like Centeno -- could join the Mets.

The boot: Daniel Murphy is wearing a full walking boot on his right foot these days, further signaling the injury that landed him on the DL is not minimal. The injury is limited to the calf, though, Murphy said.

NEW YORK (9/2)-- Chris Young, who was released by the Mets on Aug. 15, has been promoted by the Yankees. C.Y. reportedly has been assigned to Alex Rodriguez's old locker.

The Mets will save $73,770.49 -- the prorated portion of the major league minimum -- from the $7.25 million originally owed this year.

Blahhhh...blahhh...blahh.......

NEW YORK -- Sandy Alderson told a group of veterans on Monday at the V.A. Hospital in Manhattan that altering the right-field dimensions of Citi Field is still being discussed. That could boost Curtis Granderson's production.

“It’s something that we had talked about the possibility in the past and we continue to look at it,” Alderson said, as quoted by the Post. “We brought the fences in a couple years ago. It’s not about tailoring the ballpark to a particular player or a particular composition of team, it’s about making Citi Field as fan-friendly and as exciting as we can make it.”

Alderson also reportedly acknowledged wild spending isn't returning to the Mets this offseason because of existing contracts.

“It’s gonna be prohibitive, but improving a team isn’t always a function of just dollars spent,” Alderson said, according to the newspaper. “Most of the improvement that came from the Mets this year had little to do with the overall [spending] … so it doesn’t equate. We’ll have some flexibility. We’ll be able to do some things. We just have to see what’s there.”

This just in....

Apparently they're shutting him down for the rest of the season....I hope it isn't something more serious.

sheeesh.

If it is I will be furious. How long have they been talking about this "troublesome" shoulder? It would be about the 492nd time in the past decade they've let an injury linger and turn into something bigger.
