Dolphins, not Redskins, selected the right quarterback in 2012 draft - Miami Dolphins Blog - ESPN

Excerpt

Washington selected Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick in 2012. The Redskins used multiple first-rounders to trade up and get Griffin, who was considered a sure thing and on par with No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck.

The Dolphins’ selection of former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 overall pick was considered more of a project. Tannehill had limited experience with 19 starts at quarterback before Miami took him in the first round. Many draft experts said Tannehill had boom-or-bust potential.

LOL, I was in the draft Tannehill camp. After the draft I started to buy into the hype and was as guilty as anyone thinking we had a star after year one. I figured if the kid can play like that while learning to play the position image what he could be. Yeah .... imagine.

I had a guy who I liked besides Tannehill. It was Cousins. I don't think I am a talent scout. I had watched Kirk play in the Big 10 and thought he had some skills. I remember being in old Occoquan with my GF and her daughter, coming out of a restaurant and looking at my phone. Holy crap!!! The Skins drafted Cousins. I was pumped. So he we are. I don't know whether it will work with Kirk but I have been routing for him since he was drafted. Who knows, if we are lucky he might perform better than Tannehill. If not SM will be looking for another QB next year.

Not sure if you were around here at the point, but I was in the Tannehill camp as well.

Yeah Shark I was blewcrabb on the 4 letter network. I think we had very similar positions. You don't give up that many draft picks for a spread option QB. If I remember we were close to the only two advocating against the trade. I'd say I was smart but I thought Russell Wilson was too short to be effective.

I thought that Kirk had won the right to start the past couple of preseasons. So did the NE Patriots. At the same time I am not ready to call him a guaranteed success. Clearly he can move the team and put points on the board. Can he keep the turnovers to an acceptable level. This year I would be happy with 24 TDs and 15 INTs.

If Kirk has those sort of numbers, the ground game is respectable, and the defense is half as good as it should be.... this team is at minimum .500

He was on pace for 25 TDs last year but he was also on pace for 22 1/2 INTs. I think the 1/2 = a dropped INT. :dhd:

We will see when teams start game planning against his tendencies.

Can he? I mean if you wanna give him the Jax game cool. Also the Eagles game, put up 34 points, 400 plus passing yards/3 TDs, but made it all moot with that choking dog 4 n out series from the Eagles 41yard line and 2 minutes left in the game.

Other that though, he was playing catch up against every team the Skins faced and always seemed to be a day late and dollar short.

I do like Cuz though and I hope he balls 9000.

my policy is you dont give up a ton of picks for one guy so i wouldnt have made the trade . but when we did it i got on board . the off season after his injury i defended him fiercely and into the next season against the "CSI" BS but once sources started putting names to their accusations then i started to turn .

last season you saw more of the same

as for tannehill if we stayed put at 6 or traded down i would have been ok with it because we didnt blow the picks

Who knows what happens if Tannehill had been drafted. For now Griffin had the best 1st year but Tannehill has been better since. Not great but better.

You never know about the draft picks. They certainly didn't turn the Rams into a 1st rate team. Depends on who does the drafting.

Considering we had Bruce, mike and Danny drafting, most likely they wouldn't have panned out. Mikes draft record isn't that great, look at some of the picks he made while here.

Overall I agree although out of three first round picks he drafted Trent, Kerrigan and Griffin. I think the last was a collaboration. I don't know that for sure. I don't think he picks Kirk without having some doubt about Griffin. Remember most people went nuts when he picked Griffin. That doesn't look so dumb now.

Yup. Everyone thought it was a waste of a 4th. We need some more time to determine if it was indeed a smart pick.

I'm glad we didn't trade him, like so many clamored for. Then our only options to root for would have been Colt McCoy.

Those that were clamoring for a trade of cousins were likely hoping it would happen to force the coaches hand when it came to RG3. Lets face it, it would have been alot harder to convince Snyder that RG3 was not the future if the plan was to hand the team over to Colt McCoy.

Shanny wanted Tannehill back in 2012 because he was the mobile, athletic QB he coveted. Of course, Shanny also pined for Jake Locker the year before. The only reason we didn't get him is because we didn't have the ammo to trade up for him. Can you imagine if we drafted Locker? We ended up trading down and got Kerrigan. The flip side to this is that if we stayed put at #10, we could've drafted JJ Watt. Instead, we got Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins.

Im ok with us getting Kerrigan even though Watt turned out to be a better player. I would have been fine with Tannehill because it would have afforded us the ability to address some of the positions we are just getting around to address.. never mind that Tannehill is slowly becoming a much better QB than Griffin.

Is it the QB or is it the culture the QB goes into? Does anyone think Tannehill would have succeeded in Washington?
