If Goodell had just given Rice six games like he should have, and stuck with it, Rice would be better off, Goodell would be better off, the league would be better off, even AP would be better off.

Instead he got wobbly and made a bad call, and then when the video got out he got wobbly again and made another bad call. Notice the league itself has done nothing about AP after jumping on Rice within hours? Paralysis has set in.

I don't think the owners can wait until the end of the season. Goodell might have to go this week.

And we'd be better off, too - clear management of these problems would have avoided all this AP hysteria.

Now I understand that the Vikings are thinking of reinstating his deactivation...everything has just become one big mess.

If the NFL loses Anheuser Busch, Waffle House would be a good replacement.

So the waffles keep coming - AP now out until disposition of his case, and the end of whatever suspension he gets because of it. My guess is he'll be back Week 8.

On AP - looks like plea negotiations will start with the Texas DA.

Not sure what that means, because I don't think in Texas there even is a "lesser charge" for him to accept, but I assume the DA can recommend a suspended sentence. One problem is that there's no reason for the DA to concede anything because the case is a lock.

I bet AP wants to get as many payments out of his current contract as possible, because whatever contract he gets next won't be in the same ballpark. He'll take the shortest path to reinstatement (if there is one).

Case is far from a lock. . One juror who believes this is justifiable discipline is all Peterson needs, and in Texas that's not only possible, but probable

I dunno... this law's pretty clear. The jurors will probably be instructed that if beyond a reasonable doubt the kid suffered bodily injury and AP caused it, they have to return a guilty verdict. Of course someone can always say "not guilty" and not explain himself.

And there's the money issue. If pleading guilty gets him back for the last half of the season, that's five or six million dollars.

Well I personally think he should plead out, and I have no doubts the DA would be agreeable to one.

But it's all over out there, callers in to talk shows and what not, there are many people out there that don't feel he was wrong in what he did because he was disciplining his child. . The law can say one thing, but if your someone who believes the law has no business telling you how to raise your children, your not finding him guilty. And you know those are the jurors his defense team will be searching for, and they'll find em. Which is why I think the DA would be willing to plead out
