Toronto Raptors waive Canadian centre Jamaal Magloire, roster down to 15
The Toronto Raptors are down to 15 men, after waiving the first Canadian to ever play for them.
On Saturday, the Raptors announced that they have waived Toronto’s Jamaal Magloire, who was in his second pre-season as a Raptor. Last year, Magloire averaged 1.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 33 games for the Raptors. Magloire was the first ever Canadian-born player on the Raptors.
Both Magloire, 34, and swingman Dominic McGuire entered the pre-season with partially guaranteed contracts. However, Magloire never played during the pre-season, with McGuire playing in several games. Magloire was a luxury the Raptors could not find room for, already having six frontcourt players: Andrea Bargnani, Jonas Valanciunas, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis, Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy. McGuire could be a versatile defensive option for head coach Dwane Casey.
It is believed the Raptors will find a role in the organization for Magloire when he clears waivers on Monday. Magloire was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 19th pick in the 2000 Draft, and was an all-star in 2004. That 2003-04 season ended up being his best season, with Magloire posting averages of 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He has averaged 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for his career.
