I like you, Villain.

Also, it's been my experience that the team boards are just filled with a bunch of twats that piss all over themselves anytime you say something other than "this team is awesome as are all of their players and all of their fans."

The Rangers' board seems to be an exception. They're alright. However, the estrogen levels on the Mariners' board is off the charts. Spend more than a couple of minutes at a time in there and you're libel to start crying at commercials.

It does count, but they only go down in flames every other year(or at least has been the case recently). Dodgers win some division titles but then fail to even reach the WS which is obviously their goal with how much $$$ they spend.

It's not as much as people say, since a good portion of that money is going to other teams and isn't on the field but it's still a boatload. Mattingly wasn't the worst coach in history as some would have you believe but the inconsistency with his decisions and lineups was kind of annoying. The new regime in the Dodgers' front office wanted to pick their own guy, so we'll see what happens. My first choice was Bud Black but I trust that these guys know what they're doing.

Say what you will about the Dodgers crashing and burning but it's a hell of a lot better now than it was when McCourt was the owner. Now those were some dark times.

Most of the SFG guys (and of course that girl one, calsnowskier) are alright, too. I've posted over in their section in peace.

:suds:

The drumbeat of the Dodgers' forum is "this team sucks and they are always terrible and the nerds are all wrong." It's ugly.

The manager will always take the blame if a team is failing, even if he does everything right and the players just don't make their pitches or get timely hits. The last time a former Padres manager took over for a division rival, he won 3 titles in 5 years so I'm good with BB not being the guy.

It's definitely better now than in those days(at least for Dodgers fans), McCourt was shit. As someone who's seen the Maloofs try to move one of the teams I like and now Spanos probably moving one, it's obvious that having a good owner is just as important to a franchise as the players, manager/coach, and GM.

I actually tend to agree that the manager does not do that much. There are a couple exceptions in both directions, though, of course.

I think Bochy, Madden and Showwalter are in a class of their own. They definately bring a huge advantage to their teams. On the flip side, Williams was one who certainly added to the melt-down of his team. Valentine a few years back as well. But the vast majority of managers are just holding serve.
