Who said they don't believe in Hue?

People are arguing about how often/how much the bengals will actually run vs. pass the ball. I haven't seen a single word questioning Hue's coaching talent.

I think Hue is a helluva coach, and we're fortunate to have had him waiting in the wings. I'm just not so sure we can easily become a run first offense. I checked back to the last time we had a top ten rushing offense, 2009. The line was totally different then, and the biggest difference was the right guard, still Bobbie Williams at that time. His run block rating in 2009 was +22.4, Whit's was +11.6. We also had Evan Mathis at LG who was +10.6, and run blocking fullback Jeremi Johnson was a +10.0. The makeup of this oline is very different and we don't have a legitimate fullback. The team's total runblock rating was +57.9, while 2013's combined rating was -17.9.......

I think Gruden was overhyped and given to much credit because he had more sway than predictikowski, Hue will do fine.

No doubt after years of Brat, the next oc was going to look pretty good.

To be fair, he did a decent job here. Rookie QB, rookie WR, no real threat at RB until this year, really with Gio.

Yeah, Gruden has his faults. Falls inlove with trying to get the QB too many throws, etc...but, I think he did a great job with what he had coming in. I think it's time for Hue to take the offense to the next step. Something an experienced OC should be able to do with the pieces in place.

We won't just turn into a dominating run team. We have a few holes that need to be upgraded to achieve that. Notably better running from the RB's, and blocking from the Center. But, everyone across the board would need to step up their run blocking. Hopefully, a refocus on the run game with Hue will help guys achieve that. We'll see.

Also, hopefully Hue will work with Dalton on his pressure, ability to avoid and read pressure coming, and get more comfortable with handling the pressure he's going to face from defenses knowing that he makes costly mistakes when rattled. The only way to do that is to practice that every day, and drill it into him, the OL for blocking, and the RB's for picking up blitzes, until he knows what to do without thinking about it.

We'll see...as Jwil says...SHOW ME

Go after Mack or get a young center Whit and Zeitler are very good guards...AC is soft in run blocking but nice in pass pro....Andre will do fine....I see a center and improving AC and we can run the ball...Also go out and sign John Conner if he is a FA....We need a FB. I dont like 1 back offenses but if we dont then I still believe Hue will have this offense humming by middle of the season maybe sooner.... We are not getting a whole new playbook..just how we call it...

Unless the Bengals tag AC, which is possible, he's gone.

He's going to get P-A-I-D to start. Unless whit is ok moving to guard full-time (and who knows, he might be) and a contract worked out, AC is gone.

Also, more than likely, Whit would have to renegotiate his contract as the history of Brown/bengals does not bode well for paying guards big money (re: Eric Steinbach)

This was my first thought as well, but I'm not sure it's a certainty. I thought for sure AC would leave last time his deal was up. Why did he want to sit on our bench behind a guy that has (until this preseason) had very few health issues. There was certainly no guarantee that he would ever be able to showcase talents and get another deal.

Then I figured he made some cash with his showing late this season and that he would cash in somewhere else. But during an interview he went out of his way to discuss what Alexander has meant to his development and it made me think he'd be interested in sticking around if he could be the left tackle.

I think Whitworth would be fine moving inside -- It would likely prolong his career and he could probably be a probowl guard within one season.

Still feel it's likely that AC leaves, but I'm not as certain of it as I once was.

I'd like to think they learned their lesson from letting Steinbach go, as it took a few years to re-solidify the line. If there was a way to flip flop the contracts of Whit and Collins, ie have Whit re-do his to a lower number to make room for Collins to get LT money, then 4/5 of the line would be in good shape. Of course the center position has been a black hole since Braham got hurt in Cleveland.

They only way they are moving whit to guard is if he re-negotiates his deal and takes a lower salary, but maybe adds on a few years and gets a bonus up front.

He would also have to be ok with that, but I think that is less of an issue.

I guess they'll have to decide on whether or not to tag AC to begin with, or use it on MJ again. There really isn't anyone else out there that is deserving of the tag.

They won't use it on Johnson, he'll be an overpaid Viking the first day of free agency.

They could just tag him and pay him top 5 DE money. He's been worth that. Once he's tagged, it doesn't matter what he can get on the open market.

He's more likely to get tagged than AC, IMO.

Since those are the only two worth the tag, I lean towards MJ, and that's why.

Either way would be fine with me.

It's good to have depth along the lines. That is where you start. Good lines filter down.

If they tag MJ, its an even higher # because he was tagged last year. He also had a down year sacks wise this year, but he was good vs. the run. Hard to tell what he's worth on the open marker.

Whit is signed for two more years with base salaries of 5 million and a cap hit of 6.2 million each year.

That would put him in the top 10 of guard pay, but it certainly would not be out of line for a player of his caliber at the position.

And given that we are NOT going to be paying bigtime qb money because our qb will be a rookie or second year player in 2015, I think we'll be fine. :)

Good find. I wasn't going to look up his contract.

Maybe extend him by a year, or two, with the idea that he can move to guard. He'll get some more money up front in a bonus, a longer potential contract, and extend his career a bit by moving to guard.
