If we are being honest about it, DeVonta Smith is going to establish himself as the best WR in the league within the next 3 years.

I disagree. Smith averaged 8 targets a game last season and Goedert averaged 5 per game. I mean, I’m glad it’s a debate among outsiders. That means the Eagles have weapons. But I think Smith is clearly the 2nd option on the club after AJ Brown.

Yeah RTK’s hyperbole is crazy. Smith isn’t a number 1 because his teammate is a top 5 WR. At the same time, in a different situation, I don’t want to say Smitty couldn’t be a 1. He set an Eagles rookie receiving record and even as the 2nd option was able to be a 1,000 yard receiver. RTK fucks shit up here. Smitty is a great player and weapon and the Eagles are blessed to have him. But because that douche poisons the well, people around here act like dude is Tavon Austin or some scrub like that. He’s not. Sky is the limit for him. For me, I see him potentially being the Reggie Wayne type to a Marvin Harrison type. He’s already shown that he can be a great 1B more so than a true number 2.
he's not a #1 WR.
When he was the #1 he didnt break a 1000 yds.
He does benefit from you guys having a stud #1 & when rotating defenses they have to account for a high end TE as well. He is in a perfect situation to gain stats. AJ takes on the double teams & the #1 CBs.

Could he be a #1 WR on teams without one. Sure. But a weak one. Nowhere near top of the line. he has his uses. but again nowhere near top 3 LOL

Stat wise & catches. absolutely correct.
but is that true, because defenses are making sure 1st AJ then 2nd Goedert doesnt beat them? (defensive gameplanning)

He was like 40 yards short with inconsistent QB play as the only weapon on the team mostly. As a rookie he was drawing the top coverage assignment and acquitted himself well. Additionally, he had 6-7 big receiving plays called back with lineman down field because of the Eagles RPO scheme and Hurts in 2021 not being quick at getting rid of the football. Smitty would be the best WR on about half the teams in the league.

In real talk, this goes the other way. AJ drew less doubles than he should because when Smith is singled up with the 2nd corner that’s the matchup. Because of Smith (and Goedert) teams can’t sell out to take away Brown.

I agree. He’s not a top 3 WR in the league. At the same time, only 3 guys are. I don’t think it’s a knock on a guy to say they aren’t as good as Davante Adam’s Jordan Jefferson and Cooper Kupp.

Schematically, you don’t get stressed vs an in line TE. I love Goedert but he’s not a TE that needs to be doubled. Truth be told, only one TE in the league needs that kind of attention and that’s Travis Kelce.

Brandon Cooks did it multiple years on the worst fucked up team in the league as their #1. While Smith plays on one of the most complete teams in the league. Houston is a clusterfuck at QB & offense in general.

Amari Cooper went to the browns & did it with that circus & QBs. Watson coming off years of not playing. LOL
No one is claiming these guys are the top of the WR corp & anyone would take their work over Smith. (when he was the #1)
You want to compare the eagles (one of the best teams) to some of the worst clusterfuck offenses in the league & Smith still fell short.
He should thank Howie & AJ for saving his reputation. Like I said he has his uses. But you way over blow his ranking.

yeah not talking about doubling the TE. Rotating defenses to deal with the TE (double would go to AJ) having to be weary of that TE, leaving space for Smith to operate.

“Saving his reputation”?!?! Bwahahaha! WTF are you talking about? He played one year without AJ Brown and he set the franchise rookie receiving yards mark in that year. You’re talking about a rookie ruining his reputation for being about 50 yards shy of 1,000? A rookie WR? Reputation ruined? This is clown world my guy.

he,ll always be second to brown.

It's possible but also very possible that DeVonta passes him. He's younger, just as talented and his game might age better than AJ Brown's more physical style. Last year we saw DeVonta really elevate his play to at the level of AJ Brown. Early in the year they were using DeVonta as more of a possession receiver on short routes and it wasn't until the back half of the year when they started more consistently using DeVonta's skills down the field more.

If we look at the last 9 games (including playoffs):

AJ Brown had 48 receptions, 801 yards, & 5 TDs.

DeVonta Smith had 54 receptions, 784 yards & 5 TDs.

By the end of the season DeVonta Smith was already right there with AJ Brown. It'll be really interesting to see who ends up having the better year this season. Very much a pick your poison way that defenses are going to have to play when defending the Eagles this year.

Already at least 3rd best and the Lions tried to draft a real #1 the year after and the Dolphins have a different #1.

Smith is looking more juicy than either in year 3. More hype too.

Don't forget about page 113.

Even though I personally disagreed with the consensus, he was a higher rated prospect every year at the same age than AJ Brown was.

An incredible duo. Compliments each other perfectly too. You love to see it.

Oh he got even more targets without one of the other weapons on the field? Shocking.

You said Goedert is the number 2 option. He’s not. Smith is the number 2 option. And I’ve shown my work. Showing how a guy gets more production and even more targets when a weapon is down doesn’t change anything here.

K. Well with fewer targets. Goedert had more receiving yards 6 of 8 games that they both played and finished to start the season.fulgham had alot of targets too. Could be off there
Maybe someone didnt finish a game before week 9
