Demers has the highest upside (sans Burns) on the team right now of any of the under 30 guys on defense.

Can't see the Sharks trading Demers. It was obvious how big a hole his loss created against the Canucks and it would also be detrimental to Vlasic's play. M-E was so much better when paired with Demers last season. If Doug does indeed sign White I think the top 6 D are set with Braun being the 7th Dman.

If Dougie can move Niitty that would allow the Sharks to re-sign White (assuming ~$4M or so) get someone like Ward (~$2.5M) and then fill up the rest of the roster with whomever.

Not only that, but like Cmon alluded to (even though this could be false as well), DWil may be playing a game of cat and mouse to not alert other GM's of his intentions. Using the media is a great way to do this. As a GM, you have to speak out both sides of your mouth. I mean, it makes no sense to let 29 other GM's know how desperate you are/what you are looking for right?

That said, White may not be in the plans for the Sharks. I don't know.

I'm rooting for White not to be signed and Dougie gets Hejda. A top pairing of Hejda/Burns would be so much better than having Boyle/Murray as top pair again.

Said the exact same thing about Niemi coming to San Jose. There have been several occasions that he's said this but it happened which is why DP tends to be very noncommital on what may or may not happen now.
