So I love the fact that Brooks is sticking around for the long haul. I was probably his biggest fan this offseason; I think he played great last season, and he's good in every aspect of the game IMO. However, he's never been a GREAT pass rusher.
This is why I think the Niners need to looks for an OLB who is great at rushing the passer but can also cover if need be. Are there any NCAA 4-3 OLBs who are great at rushing the passer like Julian Peterson was? maybe some smaller guys?
I think Andre Carter might be a guy the Niners should consider; he only made l like 2.25 Million last year, and he's coming off a season ending injury; so he shouldn't be that expensive. He's terrible in coverage, so he wouldn't be ideal; but at least he can rush the passer extremely well.
Or what about John Abraham for a 1 or 2 year contract? He's probably too expensive, but if he's sign a 1 year contract I'd be fine with giving him some big coin. Don't know that he would, but if he's willing that would give the Niners time to search for and develop another situational pass rusher.
I'd say Mark Anderson, but he got 5 million last year; he's also young. I don't see any reason why he's not worth a long term deal.
Thoughts?
