This doesn`t have to do with who I start, but who goes to the playoffs.

This is the standings in one of the divisions in my league:

National DivisionWLTPCTPFPADIVSTREAKSilver Bullets9310.731118710696 - 1 - 1 Won 1Chillyfried8500.615112210755 - 3 - 0 Lost 1Thrashers5620.462121511803 - 4 - 1 Won 1Bomb Squad 86700.462120611783 - 5 - 0 Won 3House of Payne6700.462101711352 - 6 - 0 Lost 1

ok..........Which of those bottom three do not belong in the playoffs?
There is an arguement that says Payne belongs cause he has more wins than Thrashers.
Or should Payne be left out.
I will NOT tell you which team I am.lol
Same winning percentage...........But who do you guys think should go?

Let me try this again:

Silver Bullets 9-3-1 0.731 1187 pts scored
Chillyfried 8-5-0 0.615 1122
Thrashers 5-6-2 0.462 1215
Bomb Squad 8 6-7-0 0.462 1206
House of Payne 6-7-0 0.462 1017

This is the way the site has the standings.
Do you go by the site or by the most wins which would put Payne in and leave the Thrashers out?

What do you guys say?

5-6-2 is the same as 6-7 since they are all 1/2 game below .500.

Since the 5-6-2 team has more points than the rest, they should be in. No doubt about it.

I think if it ends up tied (I consider this tied), then it should go to the tierbreaker which is points scored. Thus, I think Payne is out.

There is an arguement that says Payne belongs cause he has more wins than Thrashers.

But Payne also has one MORE loss than Thrashers. tlance nailed it in his response.

I think if it ends up tied (I consider this tied), then it should go to the tierbreaker which is points scored. Thus, I think Payne is out.

Unless the tie-breaker settings start with head-to-head match-ups which is how the NFL does it. And fantasy tries to copy the NFL.

Why the heck would it be head to head or "division wins" over total points?

Total points is always the first tiebreaker. "Division wins"? Pretty much the most irrelevant stat there can be in fantasy football.

Um... it goes by the rules, whatever they are. Is there a hole in the rules?

In our league the tie breaker is head to head if two teams are tied. If three teams are tied then it goes to total points. I don't know how many are supposed to be left out but Payne is definitely out. If two are out Bomb Squad is next.

Is it an H2H league?

Not that I agree with this but this league has been around for over 25 years..............

8. To break 3 way or more divisional ties, the following order will be used, head to head amongst the tied teams, divisional record, and if still tied total points scored

I think that divisions in fantasy sports are utterly ridiculous.

That being said, Wil nailed this one. Whatever the rules of your league say that the tie breakers are is how it is. It should not be up for discussion at this point.

This just about sums it up. You have to go by the rules established at the beginning of the season. It sounds like H2H, division record, then total points. You may think total points should be first tie breaker but if it is not, then all must live by it.
I am commish in a Yahoo league. I made the mistake of setting divisions at set-up three years ago. Division record is default for playoffs tie breaker-but his never showed it's ugly head until this year. So inspite of having same win/loss record and most points in the league two other team were given the first round byes instead of the ol' Commish. This will be fixed next year by eliminating divisions, but this year I will just live with the result. :gaah:

Divisions can be fun, if you ask me. The Cardinals backed into the playoffs one year, (I think at 8-8), and were a Santonio Holmes toenail away from winning the Superbowl.

The team with LESS losses should definitely be in the playoffs. 5-6-2, is better than 6-7, IMO.

I think everyone else pretty much had this subject covered, just tossing my two cents in here.

Head to head record vs the tied teams, regardless of how many teams are tired is also my first tie breaker, followed by divisional record, and total points scored being the last possible step. Which is pretty close to the same way the NFL does it.
While I agree divisions are kind of pointless in fantasy land, which in turn makes divisional record pointless as well, if your going to have them, might as well make use of them. If not, may as well go without divisions all together and go with the top 4, 6, 8 teams altogether and call it a day.

This is just me, but I think that H2H record is almost as silly as the division thing.

In real football, H2H makes sense. In theory, if one team is better than the other, they will win the game. In fantasy football, unlike real football, there is nothing that I can do to impact your team's scoring. Why should my team be penalized by the fact that somebody else had their best week of the season against me?

IMO, total points and/or season breakdown record are the ONLY tiebreakers that actually make sense because they reward the better team.

T.. The Only thing I can point to is. .That's the way real football does it and I like my leagues to mirror reality everywhere possible. :)
Certainly wouldn't argue for anyone else to buy it if they don't like it.

Ok guys.....this was the problem:
First of all,i`m Bomb Squad 8......I was safe no matter the outcome.
it was the Payne team being a pain about it.he went to the commish and said he should be in before the Thrashers team. Why, cause he had more wins.
Well Thrashers played it out smooth and said ok.(but this was before rest of us knew all about what was going on and started asking questions).
well it all ended up being a big arguement from 4 of us.
I said this is the the way the site has the standings, and it should account for something.
pulling my hair out because of this(we are all grown-ups here arguing over a stupid game)I ended up searching thru the rules book.
It said in case of ties in the standings, the team with the most points ends up having the best record.(found the rules after I posted this topic)
Well its still going on.
I looked thru every single season of the NFL and never came across the same situation as the league I am in.
But the ties always had the team with the most points on top.
and I did find in 1935,The Packers and Lions in sort of the same situation tho,
Lions had a 7-3-2 record the Packers 8-4,they awarded the division to the lions..........

So thanks for everyones input....I was gonns try to help sort this out thru your comments.
