I don't understand reasons for vacating wins.

I can see how bowl bans, hefty fines, and removal of scholarships affects a football program.

What impact does vacating wins have? Those recruits that are in high school are old enough to know how PSU was, and they won't see them as "vacated". By the time the recruits are too young now, the vacated wins will be ancient history.

Even though Reggie Bush had his Heisman vacated, I still see him as a Heisman - Same with USC winning NC.

I'm not only talking about this Penn State case. I'm also including those victories that the NCAA vacated in recent years. To me, it's like they are trying to erasing history.

I guess I understand why PSU did it with JoePa being winniest coach. I'll still remember him the winniest coach, as most people will. I do see how vacating wins affect PSU more than it did with USC or Ohio State.

It affects all time stats, puts a blackeye on any program (for any situation) forever IMO. Now anytime someone looks back at the history of CFB they'll see PSU vacated all those wins. The program will come back, but they have a small token to remember it by waaaaaay down the road. Same with tOSU, U$C, among others and soon to be Miami.

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong. I don't think the opinion of the affect this has on a program is right or wrong. I just don't think they will lose any recruits over the vacated wins.

The other penalties the NCAA sactioned are ones I feel will cost them recruits.

What I don't understand, please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the NCAA technically have nothing to do with the bowl games? It's the National Championship not the NCAA championship and they are essentially outsourcing those games to various companies. How does the NCAA have authority to ban them from playing in Bowl Games? I'm sure I'm way off on this so if somebody could please enlighten me I would appreciate it.

They could have told us to paint Old Main pink with tiger stripes and run around naked and Penn State's president would have agreed. He basically signed off to accept anything.

Everything you listed can be forgotten and put behind you. When you affect the record books, you mark a wrongdoing for the rest of time.

With the internet, you put an * next to the vacated wins. Sure, you look at the Official NCAA Record Book, it will have Joe Paterno at 8th. But the link below it on the websearch has message board or article or blog about how Joe Paterno is not the winniest coach anymore. They still can see how good they did by looking at the losses PSU had. They didn't vacate the losses.

I don't think that itself is meant to cost them recruits, it's meant to say everything you worked for and accomplished is void if you break the rules.

Another thing that I don't understand is why the guy for NCAA and analysts are saying "They put football ahead of education". First, how many programs have football as one of the most popular thing or most talked about thing on campus?

If they really want to make sure they put education above football, they would have the eligible grade be an A average. What they should say is "They put football ahead of the victims and crime". That is a more accurate statement IMO.
