If a goalie and a skater are both out of the crease, going for the puck, and collide how is that goalie interference? Riddle me that. If that is the correct calling of the rule then that is dumb as hell.

I'm a Wings fan, so if you have time I can tell you all 372 ways to get a goaltender interference call...

They should just get rid of that rule and bring back the old skate in the crease rule. If both the goalies skates are outside the crease, then its fair game, hell he has more padding.

Maybe this is just me not paying attention much, but I hardly ever see that particular circumstance called. I see goalie interference called when the goalie is in the crease and the player goes in without bothering to try and NOT tackle the goalie, hit the goalie, etc. It's rare that I see a goalie interference out of the crease (not saying it doesn't happen, just that it's not the majority I see).

What bothers me more about the penalty is that refs don't seem to notice when an opponent shoves said player into the goalie (I've seen this so many times both hurt and help my team).

I think goalies should be called for interference when they cut off a player from the other team outside the crease. I've only seen a ref call that once, but by rule it should be a penalty.

One thing I never understood is how you can disallow a goal because of goaltender interference yet nobody gets 2 minutes. But on some random play where the puck isn't in the area, a guy brushes the goalie and gets the gate.

Don't feel bad, Q. Roughly 78% of NHL refs don't understand the rule either.
