It's not that simple.

Say you hired a laborer to clean your yard and you both agreed on 50 bucks.
The you see your neighbor talking to him, telling him he should be getting $500

And then all of your other neighbors stating calling you asking what are you going to do about it.

How fucking pissed off would you be?

.

I understand your pt, but this is a different situation. This is potentially a big blow to Kuchar's reputation. Till now pretty much everyone viewed him as the nicest guy in the world - at least in public. He will barely even notice losing a few more $$ & I don't think that this is a case where he did absolutely nothing wrong (& should stand by his principals).

Kind of like the guy in the story who tipped the waiter $1 on a $150 bill. Technically there is nothing wrong in doing that, but it is a douche move. This one is easily correctable & I get the feeling that Kuchar will do something moving fwd whether it is sincere or not. I am with you guys in terms of SJW type actions, but I don't put this one in that category.

1% is 12,000...

That’s being a cheap ass. Not knowing the details of course but that’s pretty bad. Now I read the caddie needed a translator so that’s what has me wondering how much the caddie communicated with Kuch.

Matt Kuchar somehow defended his embarrassingly low payment to caddie after $1.2M win

Well - you would think that after this came out that Kuchar would fix this if for no other reason than to repair his reputation. Apparently not - he is doubling down on this shit & it really makes him look bad.

Good Lord - man up - toss the guy $50K or so & just say that you screwed up. Pretty sure that the PR hit is going to cost him more than that. Like it mentioned in the article - I guess that some rich folks just think that they can act like this & basically never feel bad about it.

"It's a great week
Decent yes, but compared to what you made absolutely NOT!

Kuch has a chance to make this right.
If not, he is about to head down the road of bad charma.

Putts start lipping out more often, balls start bouncing the wrong way.
Not a good career move.

I think Kuchar grossly understated this man's ability to communicate...even in Spanish! LOL

I think he gave Kuchar enough good yardages that nothing else had to be said really....the guy doesn't know Kuchar's game enough to say much more even if he spoke fluent English.

In the end though...imo the caddie comes off as ass hole as well. When he made a stink initially (don't blame him) Kuchar responded with $15k more. To me the prudent play is to take the money and call it day even if you wanted $50k....$20k is damn good money for a week of work...fuck standing on a principle.

Total cheap skate move. Nobody's expecting the regular rate but he paid him less than half of a percent.

Mexican dude should have taken the money but Kuch is now going to be labeled Scrooge from here on out.

The caddie probably averages $1,000 a week. Kuchar and the caddie agree to $4,000 for the week prior to the tournament. Kuchar pays him $5,000 and the caddie is unhappy? Weird.

Imagine if the tournament paid the winner 1.4 million dollar instead of the 1.3 million they said would go to the winner prior to the tournament. I bet Kuchar would’ve been pissed and told them to keep the extra $100,000.

Looks like he's going to pay up 50 grand. Wonder how much Sergio paid his fill-in when he won that tournament way back when.

I work with a Mexican and I can relate to that, but in this case with an agreement in place and getting another $15k offered was not a gesture worthy of snubbing your nose at...$20k for a week! that's a healthy % of what he will earn for the yr...I'll bet his wife was pissed!

Exactly

The caddie is being a fucking martyr

the guy probably did nothing but carry his bag.

I'd have done that for free
