I said I would support any playetr selected by the Bengals and I will, but what in the F are we thinking picking two DT's in the first 3 rounds, when we have:

Peko
Atkins
Sims
Anderson (tweener)

One..I can maybe understand, but two f'n tackles when we have all that quality depth there?

Bye Bye Lamar Miller. He will never last until the 4th now.

OLB/MLB/DE/RB were all way important for depth than a 5th DT.

WTF were we thinking?

Normally, I would be all for building the lines, but they should have taken Konz instead of Stills, and I am sure there was a good DE still available instead of Thompson.

Oh well, F it.

Still was listed as a 1st rounder and we got him in the second. Thompson had a 2nd round grade and we got him in the third. The strength of this defense last year was the d-line rotation and we've now potentially made it even better.

There is a reason why teams are passing on Miller.

I love taking BPA, but with all the DT's we had, I just don't understand this. Unless we plan on playing some kind of 46 Bear defense...

Yeah, this draft didn't make any sense. There aren't enough reps for 6 DT's (Peko, Atkins, Sims, Anderson, Still, Thompson). So either they wasted their money re-signing Sims or by bringing in Anderson who's best position is as the DE/DT hybrid. Definitely a head scratcher.

I actually really like this draft. they're Zeitler will be a staple on the O-line for years. Both Still and Thompson could be steals like Atkins (thompson actually reminds me alot of Atkins). Kirpatrick is a good CB prospect that was rarely thrown at while at Bama. I'm giving the draft an A- so far.

This is what the Steelers do. They take the strength of their team and consistently continue building it with depth. They got rid of a lot of their main rotation guys from the last decade on defense and they won't miss a beat.

A couple more DT's, one was a 3rd round talent, lets take him in the 4th, another DT labeled a 4th round grade lets take him with our 5th round pick. I mean shit, lets just load the team with DT's and forget everything else we are lacking, like pretty much everywhere.

I don't care what their f'n draft grade was, we didn't need them that badly.

What would have been better...

1st CB Kirkpatrick
1st OG Zeitler
2nd OC Konz
3rd WR Sanu
3rd DT Thompson

Wouldn't that have been better than getting 2 DT's?

They still get a DT in Thompson, but also get a center of the future, highest rated center in the draft.

I am not unhappy we drafted a DT, I am pissed off we drafted 2 in teh first 3 rounds.

If Still and Thompson turn out to be good players then the picks will be hits. You cant just draft to fill the roster. They're going BPA which I totally agree with. If you go by need you reach for players that arent likely to be impact players.

maybe one of them isn't going to work out that great.

You can't think that in the first 3 rounds of teh draft. You have to believe you are taking the best guy you can who can contribute, not take two guys at an area of strength (same position) anticipating 1 is going to bust out.

I'd have been good with Konz...but the Bengals love them so Kyle cook. The point is that they're taking good players. They're not making these WTF picks on guys that nobody had rated to go for the next 3 rounds.

I didn't see at the time of their picks that Still or Thompson were the BPA. Other players were rated higher than them.

There are a lot of quality players still on the board at many of our need positions...why can't we take best player available at a "need" of ours. It isn't going to be stretching it that far. I mean for F sake, this is the 2nd and 3rd round we go DT, if you are goign to be a 5th to 6th DT, go project with a lot of upside, don't go back to back basically that high in the draft on a posityion of strength already.

I think the reason they took the two DT's is clearly because they believe in them so much. I'm sure they didnt draw it up to take back to back DT's but think that at the time Still and Thompson were the highest rated players on their board.

If they have already decided they aren't bring back Sims or Peko next year then this wasn't as bad a move.

Konz was never an option..never.

Why is that? Because we do not like offensive lineman who are smart and can play in an area of our needs? Or because we are not allowed to have two OL from the same school? Because our young QB doesn't need any time to throw the ball with Pittsburgh and Baltimore blitzing the house at us?

Not sure why he would have never been a consideration, but okay.

it's subjective, obviously but in most places Still was a late first, early 2nd and Thompson was a 2nd.
