Maybe it's just me but I think the Sabres have a pretty solid roster esp with the G boys and guy's like Foligno and Brennan. The goal tending should be solid and even though they have no real top line superstars they should have pretty good depth on four lines. Similar to the Bruins but time will tell.

Yeah, we'll have to wait and see. I think moving Roy was a good idea, even though I'm not really a fan of Ott. If anything, I see it opening up space sooner for Foligno and other guys.

I do think the D looks pretty solid though. Ehrhoff started getting it together late last season, so hopefully he carries that over, and having Regehr for at least one more year to help mentor Myers is a big help too.

And look at the bright side Boss, remember how good the Sabres were after the last lockout?

THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!!

Yes, Lockouts are good for us Sabres fans.

That explains the Penguins collapse last year. I should have seen this coming. We always collapse before lockouts! Some worse than others...

maybe in anticipation of a CBA deal being announced :D so he doesn't get hurt?

or has he sucked

they sat Kassian and Schroeder to send a message to them and the whole team.
I think they were on a 4 or 5 game skid at the time.

they are still top three in goals and points on the team.

Dear Sharks,

Boyle for a 2nd at the deadline

K thx bye :)

Also, I want the Sharks to blow it up, too. Not for the better of the team, but just the insanity of seeing a team trading their two top players in the same day. (From on outside POV, of course)

Boyle for Gustavsson and a 2013 1st Rounder at the deadline. :)

I wouldn't mind either and I'm a Sharks fan. I just have zero faith in Marleau and Thornton to lead and remain consistent (effort-wise) in the Playoffs.

On the ice, a short season only stands to improve the Jackets enough to miss out on a good draft pick. There are enough hungry guys with something to prove to make them not be the worst. The D corps and 2 completely insane goalies will keep opposing teams off balance enough at the start that they will win a few. Plus everyone will want to impress JD.

Off the ice, the all star game is cancelled, so it doesn't matter. The team, long term, is doomed. Unless the league gives them Welfare like they were Phoenix, I don't see them even in business two years from now.

If the Flyers are a Dan Boyle-esque defenseman away from going over the top at the deadline, I will take you up on that trade.

I like Boyle a lot, so I'd want to do him a solid and send him to a team with a good shot at the Cup. Also, at this point, I'd want his cap space.

I get what you mean. And I would certainly love to supply him with the whole Cup thing again :)

If a UFA Gaustad fetched a 1st, Id offer it for Boyle.

The reported losses of 10 mil per year were largely bullshit. They simply weren't making 10 mil per year on naming rights like everyone else because Nationwide footed the bill completely for the arena being built (taxpayers wouldn't) and stuck their name on it. So they negotiated, put a specific tax in place so the city could buy the arena. Now Nationwide pays the Jackets 10 mil per year, the city gets a cut of concessions and parking, and the Jackets get extra cash.

Of which they spent 4 years' worth prepping for the ASG. And the city borrowed on expected revenue from tourism for the ASG to improve the arena area thinking the concessions money would hold them over until the ASG windfall, which is now three years off at best.

They went from an imagined problem to a very real one. They cried wolf, and now the wolf is there. And the overall problem is one that affects more than just the hockey team. To make up the budget losses for construction, schools, fire and police are expected to take a hit. The mid-term elections will happen before the ASG comes again, and the citizens will kick the shit out of the politicians for accepting such a bum deal (even though they couldn't have predicted it would be so bad).

End result = no team in three years. Especially if the do a short season without the ASG. Unless the other owners give the Jackets money to cover losses on predicted revenue, they are in deep doo doo. With a washed out season, at least the politicians and the organization can write it off and say "hey, we couldn't control that". But with a 62 game season, the team can't really say anything because on paper, they are spending less in salary. And pissed off fans won't go to games and Concessions and parking revenue drops.

Lockout sucks for the Penguins, mostly because you're losing a year of Malkin and Letang (and others) who are up for FA relatively soon, and who knows if they can be resigned in the new CBA. Just generally losing a year when our stars are entering their prime would suck.

Losing half a season might work out though. Pens seem to be really streaky, and I feel a short season would help them keep their focus, and give other teams less of a chance to develop strong systems (which the Penguins don't develop anyway...)

If there is a draft lottery you will no doubt see a few big winners that will draft much higher than they otherwise would. For the most part, the odds favour the weaker teams but not by as wide of a margin as they would if there was a season, so chances are a few would be playoff teams could hit the jackpot. I think the Oilers would have been good enough to take away any chance at drafting #1 overalll again, or even in the top 5 but they have a reasonable enough chance to 4-peat.

Gee; I sure hope that you're wrong about that. I made it to Columbus last year to catch a Wild/Jackets game (my 1st ever NHL game), & was hoping to make it an annual event.

Don't imagine that I'm going to like the expenses involved in trying to do the same in Detroit or Chicago! :(
