He might've been cut based on his early play...that's right...For the 1st two SB wins...dominant DEF...Bradshaw was basically Brad Johnson, hand it off and make a few 3rd down passes...but the 2nd two, the DEF was still good, but getting older...Bradshaw was a difference maker on those teams.
in todays NFL, where teams give a guy 2-3 years before they cut ties...he'd have been out of football by year 4.

first 3 years:

31 TD's
58 picks

48% completion

52.6 rating

135 yards/game

19-16 record

i'm 39, so no. you probably never saw YA tittle play. doesnt mean you cant comment.

5 times over 20 INT's in a run happy era (did it 3 straight years too)

5 times under 50% completion

166 yards per game (again, in a run happy era)

2257 yards rushing, over 5 yards a carry

tim tebow

Nope, never saw YA play. Then again, unlike you, I did not compare a player I never even saw play to another player!

The statistical evidence that you attempt to use in support of your comparison ignores two points that have already been made in this thread. First, Bradshaw improved as a QB over the course of his career. Second, and perhaps even more important, the game has changed so much from the 70's to now that statistical comparisons of QBs in different eras are simply ignorant. For example, setting aside how what is permissible play by DBs has changed, how do the proportions of snaps taken under center differ between Tebow and Bradshaw?

I have seen both play. Can't imagine that anyone else who saw both play would ever compare the two.

bradshaw = tim tebow today. nice deep ball, very athletic, like a LBer playing QB. 50% or below completion.

i'll probably get killed for that.

Yeah...you should get killed for that...I did see Bradshaw (not Y.A. though)...nothing like Tebow...never a running threat...big arm. dufous (sp) mentality..., could take a hit as most QBs could back then...threw a lot of picks early trying to force balls...but eventually became an accurate passer and the catalyst for the 2nd two SBs.

LOL...most of those TDs were QB sneaks!

You have to trust me on this one...Bradshaw was not much of a runner...he ran for his life behind shaky OLs.

Maybe "stupid" is the wrong word. I don't know what word best characterizes comparing a player who you never even saw play to another player. Perhaps "uninformed" is a better word. In any event, that certainly isn't something that I would do, though I admittedly sometimes do stupid things!

TDs,

We all compare players we haven't seen to players we have seen, that is half the fun about talking sports... and I don't think it is necessary to have seen a player, you just need to know context...

Look, I'm not trying to be "holier than thou", but I have never compared a player I have never seen play to another player. I wouldn't know how to begin.

But if we can not compare players that we have never seen, then there would be no purpose in joining a conversation about these players we have never seen...

How do you debate players that you have never seen, if you don't make claims that they are better or worse than another player??

I'm not trying to establish what posters can or cannot post about. Rather, I simply felt quite certain that a poster who compared Bradshaw to Tebow had never seen Bradshaw play. Turned out I was right about that!

And I am sure Rock, was making that comparison half jokingly... BUT for those of us who haven't seen a player we need to base our knowledge on the data we get our hands on...

Great thread. I think you haveto judge QB's on what they have done. The problem with saying a particular QB could have played in any system is that your are speculating. It might be true, but you don't know for sure because it never happened. I also don't think you can discount a QB because he played in a particular system or had great talent around him. I think you have to just judge that player on what he accomplished. Montana was mentioned in this thread. Bill Walsh wanted to draft Phil Simms but the NY Giants took him earlier Had Walsh drafted Simms, Simms would have probably put up much better numbers, but instead went to a defense/run first team. That is the way it goes. I also don't like comparing QB's from different eras. Hard to compare QBs from today versus QBs from the 50s and 60s. The game is so much different today.
