Not sure how they are graded or what is being referenced here, but if we are talking about overall effectiveness at Smith's position I can definitely see how someone like Smith would get lower marks than others.

I can think of 2 reasons off the top of my head - 1. Inconsistency - Smith will have periodic monster games with game changing plays but then have games where he is nowhere to be found 2. Lack of discipline - I have witness numerous times where Smith takes himself out of the play (in an attempt to make a big play) that results in a big run or some other play for the opposing offense.

He is no doubt a very gifted & smart player, but for various reasons this doesn't always result in effective play on the field.
