I just don't see it. To the NFL it's a matchup of two teams that may not be in the playoff chase, therefore, not nationally important.

Which is also why he suggested it should've been scheduled earlier in the season.

"A player refusing to play for a team, getting traded for multiple high picks, and then going back to his old stadium to get booed for 3 plus hour.."

I agree with this assessment. As played out as the whole thing had become, this could have added some nice headlines in an otherwise relatively slow Week 2 or Week 3 week - giving all the talking heads a chance to revisit and reassess the trade, holdout, etc - leading up to a MNF game.

Week 2 you have Denver @ Atlanta and Week 3 it's Green Bay @ Seattle. I can't say I find anything intriguing about those games.

Well, Manning will always draw viewers and Green Bay as well. Again, I just don't think Palmer vs Cincy has a ton of cache outside of this area, especially since he played last season and wasn't exactly an all pro.

I can see us starting 5-2 or 6-1. Should beat the Chiefs and Oakland too. I can see us starting 7-4 or 8-3 and then lose the remaining games.

I would find a Manning visit in Indianapolis intriguing no matter how much the Colts sucked. If Tebow were starting, I'd find a matchup where he goes against the Broncos intriguing even though there is little exciting about Tebow. You are vastly understating the appeal even basic storylines have for many football fans.

Agreed, but also you have to note that Palmer is not the national story-line player that Manning or Tebow is. They generate fans across the world.

I agree, I think a cin/oak game would draw good ratings for a night game, but I don't think you can make a comparison to the Manning or Tebow returning home because of how polarizing each of those players are, and Palmer is nowhere near that.

And for Manning, it would be totally different because he's been there forever. Won a Superbowl. Multiple playoffs. MVP's. He was the face of a franchise for over a decade.

Tebow is Tebow...there's no other player in the NFL that generates the type of following he does across the board.

So, again, I do agree that a Cin/Oak matchup would probably draw some national interest, it would be nothing compared to either of the other two scenerios listed.

First off, no one outside of Cincy really cares about Carson Palmer and the Bengals. Especially when there is Vick/Cam, Jets/Pats, a 9ers/Saints rematch, Packers/Giants, and Skins/Boys.

Also, our schedule is obviously back heavy, but I still see us losing a game or 2 we have no business losing early in the year. I'll stick to my guns and say 6-10, 7-9 best case.

Oh, I agree with that. Those players themselves have a different kind of appeal. You could have included a Vick return to Atlanta (in the past obviously) as well in their category. But I was making the point about storylines. Ignore the names on the jerseys and those matchups would still be appealing. That said though, while Carson may not have the same fan base as the other guys, the way everything happened between Carson and the Bengals, the story itself would be unparalleled.

It has more of a storyline than prior primetime games we have played under Marvin Lewis.... We've played the Jags, Dolphins, and Jets (to name a few) under the lights. There was really no compelling story for any of those teams.

BTW -- I wasn't suggesting that I thought the Oak/Cincy game would be a Sunday Nighter -- I thought it would be our Thursday night game. The Sunday night games are normally marquee teams/marquee players but sometimes the Thursday night games are geared toward "comeplling" or "dramatic" match-ups.

Anyway..... I suppose I'd rather not have the primetime games we do. As it looks now, we'll likely go 0-3. Hopefully we don't embarrass ourselves.

That's at least six losses right there, and maybe eight......throw in the facts that we have almost never beaten Miami, and KC can be really tough at home, and Carson will probably have a career game against us, just out of spite, and it's really easy to find nine or ten probable losses......

I think anywhere between 5 and 8 wins seems about right. I'm leaning towards 5 or 6, though. This is not a good team. Shocking, I know.

Sounds about right....this year they are playing enough good quarterbacks for the team to be exposed for what it is.....

8-8

the offense will improve, the defense will make people angry, unless they happen to be fans of the other team.
