Specifically to stop hurry up offenses?

Coach em up to not strap on helmet tightly. Maybe even take your own helmet off in a pile.

It will happen.

Don't think it will slow anything down. Play is not stopped and there is no delay on starting the play clock.

It's a good rule. Maybe when some of these teams lose their star qb or wide receiver in a crucial play they'll start making them wear helmets that fit and strap them on. That's also a big reason for concussions.

You have to get someone off the field though. Even like 5 seconds to do this can be critical.

next week?

I'm waiting for defenses to start ripping helmets off key offensive players while they're piled up. Bad rule is bad. Someone's gonna get hurt because of the rule.

I played for 15 years and don't remember my helmet just coming off. This is a good rule.

There was an AU player that had his arm around Tajh's neck last night and then ripped the arm up and snatched his helmet off. So you can say it's already started if you think he did it on purpose. BTW, I don't think he did, but I can see this being intentional in the coming weeks.

If you wear a helmet that actually fits and strap it down like its supposed to be its awfully hard to just "rip it off" as you say.

That would be a penalty and not part of the rule. The player whom is fouled does not have to come out.

Maybe our equipment guys aren't doing it right, but they were pulling the chin strap as tight as they could last night. They showed them on the sidelines doing it. And as I said the guy ripped it off his head last night. :noidea:

That's a helmet fit issue then. Players shouldn't be able to just flip their helmets off even without a chin strap if they're fit properly. When I played I had to stick my fingers in the ear holes and pull them out to comfortably take my helmet off. You'd see less concussions if they wore helmets that fit properly too.

I agree with you guys about the helmets coming off way too easy and way too often. I can't remember helmets popping off like they do now. I'm just saying this could give someone incentive to change the dynamics of the game because they can tear a helmet off an opposing player.

I think you'd see a team heavily penalized and players ejected if that becomes a blatant issue.

Already happened three times in our game; Boyd had his lid ripped off three times, at least two of which the defender had his helmet in a headlock.

In eight years of playing football my helmet came off once and that was in a pee wee practice. As a LB I filled the gap and and had a helmet to helmet w/ our running back running full steam.

We never had more that a chin strap with one snap on either side. As others have stated, I had to put my fingers in the earholes and pull out to get it off.

The one time I lost my helmet? I made the stop, coach came over to make sure I was alright, then commenced to chewing me out for improper tackling.

It hasn't cost anyone majorly thus far, but I can envision a star RB or QB being ineligible for a critical third down because of it.
