I saw the play as well and I'm a Senators fan but there was nothing overly bad about that Subban play. I just hope the team focuses more on winning tonight than on injuring subban.

Does everyone remember last season, when Kreider slammed into Carey Price after he got dragged down from behind? All of these Habs fans that are defending Subban for intentionally injuring Stone were SCREAMING for Kreider to get suspended for falling over and crashing into the goalie after he got hooked down from behind.

I get that hockey fans are always homers, but they don't have to be hypocrites. It's just pathetic to try and make the case that Subban didn't do anything wrong--and I've heard that from a whole lot of people. He should get 4 games, but I wouldn't mind if they cut it to 2 because it's the playoffs and because he got tossed in game 1. Seriously, the Sens will take matters into their own hands--they have shown that they will stand up for each other. Montreal is soft, and they don't do well at all when they get dragged into a street brawl.

This series is going to be great to watch as a fan without a horse in the race--or, in this case, dog in the fight.

I haven't heard many people say PK did nothing wrong, some people just disagree with what the penalty should be.

Your description of the Kreider play is pretty far off, but letting that slide since I understand your point, we'll move on.

Habs fans have never really been known for being reasonable. Let's keep in mind that this is the city that rioted when the Rocket got (justifiably) suspended. This was also where the local police opened an investigation into Zdeno Chara hitting Max Pacioretty. That's why it's important to take anything said by fans of the teams involved - especially when Montreal is involved - with a grain of salt.

And on the topic of Pacioretty, your selection of trying to compare Stone getting hurt to Kreider hitting Price is absurd. While I won't argue Stone's importance to the Habs - probably 3rd behind Hammond and Karlsson - trying to compare him to Carey Price is absurd. If you had compared to the outrage after Chara/Pacioretty, that would be relevant, because the players involved would be much more comparable.

And regarding a suspension, like it or not, the precedent is there. One thing we fans always scream for is consistency. Well find me a situation in which a player was suspended for four games in the playoffs for a slash. Or even two for that matter. Hell, Duncan Keith only got one for intentionally slashing a guy in the face (officially listed as a high sticking suspension). Again, like it or not, the precedent is there.

Somehow I can't help feeling that if a Canadien was slashed and the team wanted a suspension because the player received a microfracture everyone would think it was hilarious.

Speaking of that, here's a text excerpt between me and my brother, who is also a Wings fan, which occurred immediately after a goalie interference call in last night's game:

Or honestly if it was anyone on the Habs other than Subban that did it.

I think the focus will remain on hockey and not devolve into silliness.

I know I am in the minority, but generally the uglier the game gets the less interested I become. Scrums after every whistle, cheap shots, frequent fights, etc detract from the game IMO.

You're probably right but we all know the players will police it themselves when necessary. If anything happens it will happen in Ottawa and I would think it would be if the Sens are getting eliminated. I don't mind some old time scrums now and then in the regular season but I agree with you for the playoffs where the game has become so fast and exciting. Bench clearing brawls are gone, and we all know we'll see nothing like what happened in 1987 between the Habs and Flyers. I think there will be some kind of retribution before the series is over.

Watch Claude Lemieux sneak onto the ice at the end of the pre-game skate and put a puck into the empty Ottawa net.

To be honest I would feel the same way no matter who it was, including a Bruins player. He gave him an old time 2-hander. It was a douchey thing to do just like Lucic hacking the Wings players nut sack.

I still remember turning the game on and hearing about it. It had been brewing all series. Lemieux doing that would be hysterical.

Targeting players on the ice. Threats.

Please tell you hate Milan Lucic as much as you hate Subban then.

Side note, I am shocked and appalled players are not cordial to each other at all times. Is this a new phenomenon?

lucic is a douchebag who has cam neely talent, but no spine and little heart.

not what you were expecting when you typed that, huh?

Honestly, nope.

I think Comeds was expecting a reaction more like this:

That kind of slash happens pretty often, but it usually catches the stick or padding or something and doesn't cause an injury. I'm sure if this one didn't hurt Stone, Subban would have been called for a minor, and no one would be talking about it now.

Obviously, it's reckless and dangerous, but that's why it's a penalty. There's not a whole lot else here.

If that was Marchand the entire forum would have exploded.

Hammerdown would need to hire another 3 hamsters to run the NHL forum.

In the end it was a bad slash. Did he deserve a game maybe? I dunno. I am more of let em sort it out on the ice. PK has always been a bitch though cause he wont back up his shit with his fist's but in the end if he had a B on his uniform I would be happy.
