Seriously what a waste of money this was that could've gone to someone more useful. You just gave a man who is avg 8 PPG/6 RPG in his career 49 million over 4 yrs? It is amazing how teams overpay for big men all the time.

Still not as dumb as the Kings giving Boogie a max extension

At least Cousins can play basketball. He just needs to grow up but he is a much better basketball player.

I will take Cousins 16 and 10 with a nasty attitude over Favors 8 and 6 with a good attitude any day

He's a young guy who was only playing 20 or so minutes a night - him and Enes Kanter were one of the best defensive duos in the league when they were on the court - if Derrick Favors plays 30-35 minutes he's going to put up good numbers and that contract will be justified

Yeah, if they were going to pay him this much money, they should have waited until the end of the season. What's the hurry? Nothing about his game or track record suggest he's worth $12 million a year. To this point, hes' on J.J Hickson's level.

He's shown the potential to be worth that kind of money but he hasn't proved it yet. I thought the same thing when I saw the contract, how did he get that. Will see if he's worth it.

You must not watch much basketball. Dude has crazy potential but he's been blocked by Jefferson and Milsap. Now that they are both gone he is going to breakout... perfect time to extend him.

I mean he has potential but it's a lot of money to someone who hasn't played tons of minutes yet.

Considering Amare got 100 mil over 5 years I think taking a risk on Favors now for half of that price is a solid deal. When given starter minutes he's put up very impressive numbers. Trust me you'll change your mind about this deal by season's end.

This is the new trend sign someone early who you think has a ton of potential so you can get a steal of a deal, we all have seen what happens when you wait and teams with more money can offer more even as a restricted free agent, and you are forced to match because the player has upside or potential or you just can't afford to lose him we saw that when the suns offered Eric Gordon and max and now the Pelicans are forced to deal with that contract. DeRozan gotta solid deal, the kid has Kobe potential and never seems to make the next step. 4 years 40 million. Larry Sanders 4 years 44 million. That's why OKC was dumb not trying to lock up Harden after he showed his potential in the playoffs, just offering him 10 million a year at the time and saying we was part of the big 3 he would of signed in a heart beat after the 2011 playoffs. Suns need to sign Bledsoe to an extension before a team like the Magic offer him more than he's worth restricted free agency is BS teams can basically offer a max so a team is forced to match for an overpaid player like Gordon. Teams should have the ability to lock players up if they want to and give them the contract they want if the player doesn't want to resign then the team can either let him off into free agency or franchise tag him like in the NFL where you can keep him for a year and pay him a contract of 8 million for that season until the player proves he's worth that much money or so a team can trade him and get something back for him. Because players coming out of there rookie contracts especially good ones will take a good contract that has more money then there worth at that time this makes it so rookies can't just go on the open market and look for who ever will pay that player the most. This gives organizations a more fair chance to get a player at a good value so players that are on there rookie contracts should have a chance to be franchised tagged so they can be dealt or have a year to work out a deal rather than just going on the open market and big market teams stealing franchise players. There also should be a non rookie franchise tag also worth 8 million for non rookie contracts that teams can use every 4 years this makes it so players like Lebron can't just leave a team, once again making it so organization can stay away from overpaying, or giving the chance to deal a talented player to get something out of it, or to have the oppurtunity to work out a deal or to build a team to make that player happy the NBA just needs to give organizations a little bit more control to maintain there young players or maintain there franchise players. Bottom line the NBA needs franchise tags for players on rookie contracts and a franchise tag every 4 years that you can use on players that aren't on rookie contracts. To many players are overpaid and are leaving teams to play with other stars. This would make the league more competitive.

Actually, James Harden turned down OKC's offer. Turns out he was smart in doing so.

I don't question that Favors has potential, but there's nowhere in his game that proves he's worth $12 million a season. He's proven nothing, yet he's now scheduled to make more annually than Steph Curry. Like J.J. Hickson, he's never proved to be even a decent passer for a big man.

All you need to hear is "big man" to know why he is making that money, you can't teach people to grow to 6' 10".

Benefits of being able to chew gum and dribble a ball while being tall. Seriously though he will probably end up earning it with more playing time.

The only problem that I see with this is that he is getting a huge contract based off of his potential and not what he has actually accomplished.

There is a long history in the NBA of guys getting big paydays off of "potential" that is never realized.
