How did they pick Notre Dame and Oklahoma over OSU?

Anything can happen, but barring another 12-0 Notre Dame team fucking things up, it's really hard to see the playoffs for the next few years not being some combo of Bama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

Impossible.

I’ve been assured for years that USC, Miami, and Texas are the programs that will run CFB due to “built in advantages”.

:D

Somebody didn't witness the 7th best team in the SEC completely annihilating the team that embarrassed Ohio State by 29.

It changes from year to year. Last year they went with 4 best, this year they went with the 4 most deserving.
...and that is what drives people crazy.

Air>OU's secondary.

Okay.

This was tOSU’s great “defensive improvement” at the end of the season.

51 to Maryland (would’ve been 52 if the Terps kicked the PAT)

39 to Michigan (see the UF game regarding UM’s “improved offense”)

24 to NW (an offense that looks like Michigan playing in molasses)

Sorry, but I just don’t see anything there indicating they were anything to fear on defense.

Seriously, those asking about Georgia just :L

I get people wanting to ask what if... when it comes to Ohio State, maybe even UCF (wrong, but I get it), however Georgia deserved it more so why weren't they playing Bama instead of oky? News flash: They already showed us what that would look like just a few weeks ago. They lost. It's just not that hard.

Would I expect Georgia to beat Oklahoma and ND? You bet. I see no conundrum here. Georgia already played one of the top two teams and lost. The other two next in line had not had that chance. There isn't any other team that I'd expect to have beaten either Bama or Clemson so which were the sacrificial lambs doesn't really matter a whole lot.

I think that I am an unbiased person regarding this discussion.

#1 - Losing to Purdue by such a large margin, is almost unforgivable. "Almost".

#2 - Notre Dame was the team that should have been left out. How did ND deserve in and UCF didn't? If going undefeated is what put ND in, then why not UCF? Their win over Auburn last year is far more impressive than anything ND has done recently.

#3 - Minus ND, I'd put Georgia in over Ohio St.

#4 - This year seemed to be clearly a 2 team race, and one of the minority of seasons where there are 2 clear favorites. Ohio St likely would have gotten whooped just as OU and ND were. So it really doesn't matter, cept for future comparisons of # of CFP appearances, but this year is a great example of why 8 would have been better than 4. That way Georgia, Ohio St, Washington & UCF could have been given a chance, if not to win a Title, to prove they were better or worse than each other.
10 power 5 wins to 1. Using wins from previous seasons in college ftball is stupid

I disagree regarding the Bama game eliminating UGA. What eliminates them was the 20-point loss to LSU in addition to the Bama game.

No way you can eliminate tOSU over a single bad loss and let UGA in with a bad loss plus a second loss.

@Deep Creek dont listen to others when it comes to me. Judge for yourself. I won’t comment about the person who tried to influence your opinion. That’s his problem.
Engage him at your own risk, Deep Creek.

They weren't anything to fear on defense. I ain't defending them...just pointing out how bad OU's was.

And Murray did better against Bama than Haskins would have...at least IMHO. Haskins is more pocket passer than "backyard ball" QB. Murray can chunk it from the pocket pretty well too. But, he'll drive a defense nuts when it turns into "backyard ball". So no, tOSU wouldn't have done any better. OU's pass defense is still very, very poor. While very good, that factor needs to be taken into consideration when evaluating Tua's performance last night.

Alabama sure looked good. I shook my head listening to the Oklahoma QB talk after the game about how "we stopped ourselves" and how the game was close. Alabama had him scared; couldn't even stay in the pocket.
This game was never in doubt after the 2nd Alabama offensive series. They simply took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half.

The purpose of the 4 game playoff is to reduce questions of legitimacy for the eventual crowned champion. We don't have questions left about what Bama v Georgia looks like. And it wasn't early in the year it was their last played game. It was a pre-playoff where they had their chance to rock the college world and lay claim to a top 4 bid. And failed.

Yes, they also lost to LSU which is why that SEC CCG was an elimination instead of leaving them open to still being viable like Bama was in the same situation. Two losses and one of them was against one of those top 4 teams.

As I've already said, OSU had one bad loss. Really bad in fact. But that wasn't their only problem for the committee. They followed up that game not by bouncing back and showing it was just one bad day, but had issues playing at home against Nebraska. And if not for a 2pt failure by Maryland... OSU had signs of not being the dominating team they have been in the past.

It is possible to have bad wins. Buckeyes had a couple of them.

And no, beating a lackluster UW in the RB won't change any of that.

My risk "giveashitter" broke a long time ago.

I'm an old school principal/superintendent. I've been pissed at and missed/shit at and hit more than most.

Notre Dame. A lot of people thought these Catholics could actually play. Most people knew Michigan was not that good.

I'll bet. My mom was the Principal at my junior high school. That sucked!

Gotta disagree. He looked like shit out there until after the game was already decided and Bama took their foot off the gas. He looked confused and skittish out there. Extremely disappointing.

I'm not and haven't ever tried to advocate that UCF is a more deserving team THIS YEAR, than Notre Dame. I just don't think it's right that anytime Notre Dame goes undefeated they automatically are considered a Championship contender, and anytime a non-P5 team goes undefeated they are automatically denounced for their weak schedule, something that it's almost impossible for them to do anything about.

My referencing last year's bowl game win over Auburn is only to point out the possibilities. It's "possible" that UCF was one of the Best 4 teams last year. But because of preconceived perceptions of fans and the NCAA's desire to maximize profits and a system designed to make it almost impossible for non-P5 teams to ever qualify for the CFP, we'll never know just how good last year's UCF team was, and we might not get a chance to really know how good this year's UCF team is either, because LSU might be a decent team, but #11? It's like the bowl people purposely made sure UCF wasn't paired up against a Top 5-8 ranked team, seeing as their beating the likes of an Ohio St or a Georgia would promote the tourney expansion people's argument and that would rock the boat and those wanting to maintain the status quo wouldn't like that.

Well stated.
