I think the real question is how did they pick them over Georgia? The only reason that happened is because TV didn't want a Alabama/Georgia rematch that soon. Rating would have been lower, which means commercial revenue would have been lower. What I can't figure out is, I thought it was suppose to be about the best 4 teams. Looks to me that TV revenue still dictates.

Nah, UGA is a really, really good football team. They probably are among the best three teams in the country. That said, they had their chance. If UGA had only lost to Bama, they probably would have been in. But they also lost by three touchdowns to LSU, who has a horrible offense. And after that, they still had the chance to get in, and blew it. Fromm played the best game he could have, and it wasn't enough. I don't think UGA could have duplicated that effort again. So they did not deserve to be there.

Holy SHEET, that is some seriously BAD D?! How the F did they get into the CFP???

Because they were the #1 scoring offense, the #1 total offense, the #8 passing offense, #1 in passing efficiency, the #11 rushing offense, and #2 in rushing yards per carry. Their defense was absolute garbage, but for most of the season, Oklahoma could outscore their opponents despite that.

You can't blame Christian there. As soft as OSU played that game I would have checked to see if their ass was indeed candy too.

I think you're underestimating how big Notre Dame's fan base is. There is a reason why they're on their own network and Georgia isn't.

We did everything I said we needed to do against Bama to have a chance to win. We did everything on the list. We were balanced on offense. We didn't turn the ball over. We forced turnovers. We got pressure on Tua. And it still wasn't enough. We didn't deserve a playoff bid.

If you go by 4 most deserving teams, the committee probably got it right.

It depends on how you judge a team. If it's record, Georgia is out; if it's conference championship, Georgia is out; if it's the eye test, there is an argument for UGA. I'm not an eye test type of person but there are many in the media who have more say than I do.

Had we showed up against LSU, we would have been in, but there was no way to justify us being in over ND, Oklahoma or even Ohio State.

It is what it is, personally, I think we gave everything we had in that Bama game, and I don't think the rematch would have been near as good.

But we're one of the youngest teams in the country, 2019 should be Kirby's best team at UGA and we'll be nearing 80% of the roster being blue chips. There's a real chance Bama and UGA will be 1 and 2 next season.

@Deep Creek is any of this push back I am getting due to the fact that people hate OSU? I know many here hate me which may contribute to it(I don’t expect you to know that). Curious if this is a factor

You label half of the population as idiots and fake patriots and wonder why you get push back? lol Clueless a little?

Everyone can agree ND didn't belong
They got in on the backs of a lackluster second tier of teams. Same with Oky.
Notre Dame played a significantly more difficult schedule than UCF.
This nimrod started out claiming UCF deserved it more this year based on beating a team last season. There's no point in trying to reason beyond that. Clearly we are dealing with people willing to force a round peg into a square hole to support their preconceived agenda.
Holy SHEET, that is some seriously BAD D?! How the F did they get into the CFP???
As much as you want to bend things to meet your agenda, it's more the example that we don't need more playoffs, not what you want it to mean.

Large playoffs make sense in the NFL where they strive for parity, setup the rules to keep teams from having an easy road to dominating, have balanced schedules to create a fair way to seed them, and play more games to build that resume from.

No matter how much all of you want college to build toward that, it isn't going to happen. Kids select where they want to go. It starts and stops right there. When the best talent in the sport can choose their school and a small number of them have a backlog at picking from them, you are never going to get a balanced field for a playoff. It can't possibly happen and there isn't anything you can do to change it. Period.

Someone else will build a program that challenges what Saban is doing, like Dabo has. It's a slow process that requires taking steps that lead to more high level recruits that then take more steps and yet again more high value recruits. The teams around the top 2-3 will change over time, but there will always be a small number of them and they will be your championship pool.

Adding more to the playoffs comes with financial problems people want to dismiss or ignore, but are central to why it hasn't already happened. You aren't going to get the same fan frenzy across 3 rounds of playoffs. Even asking for two rounds is already rough, but filling a stadium for a finals game with corporate backing and fans from across the sport ease that. First round in a 3 week format will struggle to replace the same money coming in from the NY6 bowls. It's not hard math to run down.

Beyond the money is rewarding mediocre play. UW is the poster child for why we can't do AQ playoff spots. A 3 loss champion doesn't belong in anything other than a consolation prize bowl game. Regular season games should matter and should carry consequence. The more you add to a bloated playoff, the more you let bad play not mean anything. And of course if you put all of the P5 champs in you also entirely ignore their out of conf games as those do not count for conf standing. You entirely weaken the sport, not strengthen it.

All we did this year is prove there are a couple of teams well ahead of everyone else. They got to prove they both belonged in the finals and that the winner left is a strong champion with no questions left. So, the system worked as intended.

I don’t care how good Haskins is at throwing the ball, he doesn’t pose the running threat of a Murray. And given the way Tua threw it last night, tOSU would’ve done well to make it closer than they did against Purdue.
Need to keep in mind that last night Tua was doing so against the 105th worst pass defense in college football. j/s

  • Oklahoma barely scratched out wins against some awful opponents in at least 3 games this season.
  • Ohio State should have lost had Maryland's coach not foolishly went for two in overtime and failed to convert. Maryland was doing everything they wanted to do in the running game and more that day. Not only was it stupid to choose to pass there, they should have kept the game going with the momentum on their side. Bad coaching saved Ohio State's chances in that regard. On top of that Purdue smoked them. At least you can say LSU is a tough opponent.
  • Notre Dame barely beating teams like Ball State and Vanderbilt does not exactly make them look like a team that is championship caliber.
  • Nobody played UGA close except for Bama and they looked bad against LSU who is legitimately a good team.

There's an argument in there somewhere, it's just highly subjective.

Beats the hell out of me. While I see you have 6,000+ posts, this is the first time I recall viewing any of your posts.

People on here hate tOSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, etal. There may even be a few that hate my lowly Miners!

Was it analytics?
Man those committees can find a way to screw anything up.
Probably having that shitbird they have as a head coach didn't help OSU.

He was 24/27, with 3 drops, and he wasn’t dinking. I’ve seen tOSU’s pass defense. It isn’t that good. It was better with Bosa, but there’s no Bosa. They still will beat UW, but UW’s offense looks like an average Alabama HS unit.
