Self-proclaimed Asshole
I saw that. Rather try for Lee and Garza first then fall back on Peavy. Is Rios any good? We do need another hitter.
I'd want Garza before peavey. No question.

I am just not a fan of rios. He's been scuffling lately sporting just a .643 OPS in July. He's getting on base at a serviceable .324 clip and wRC+ 103 this season. I realize he would be an upgrade from murph, but what would it cost? Frankly, I'm not certain we wouldn't be better with an OF of Martin, Beltre, Cruz. Unfortunately, for that to take place somebody besides wash is going to have to write the lineup card.
As far as peavy, is he really much of an upgrade? He's a fly ball pitcher who is on the wrong side of 30. There's some indication he's had a little bad luck because his babip is sitting at .293 this year, but he's also giving up 1.39hr/9. His k/9 looks good. So I suppose he could be a decent pick up provided you're not expecting him to be more than a #3-4 pitcher, and we do not have to give up too much to get him.
I like Schierholtz also. I was the first one to bring him up on the other site a few weeks back. I think Rios is a better fit though.
I think Rios would be a great addition. He's a tall, athletic, right handed bat w/ power. He can play any of the OF spots, and would fit very nicely into the 5th or 6th spot in the order. I would also like Garza or Lee, but I think Lee will cost too many prospects. I was just reporting what I read.
Picking up Rios would satisfy a desperate need for a right handed bat in this lineup; as long as the price is right. They can keep Peavey.
i could have sworn we had a thread for this trade talk stuff...............
So what happens if they acquire rios? $100 says wash platoons him with Murphy. Then what happens to baker when he's healthy?
Cuddyer had some solid seasons in Minnesota, but he's putting up a career year at 34 in Colorado, only bonus Cuddyer provides is an ability to play 1B
Baker does what he did before, UTIL player CIF and COF
Pretty much guarantee Murphy would be in that trade going the other way
That my be more important than you think initially.
And cuddyer is blowing rios out of the water. He's sporting a wRC+ of 156, OPS of .984, and OBP of .394. Granted these are career year numbers but we'd only need him this year and next. We might as well acquire him for the run while he's white hot.
I'm saying I don't trust his numbers
But in the end, it just depends on whats being asked for
Exactly right. I don't trust his numbers to hold up forever but if he can keep them going this year is be fine even if he regresses to the mean next year.
His OPS is already 100 points lower on the road, granted its still .903, but imagine what happens when he starts playing in places like Anaheim, Oakland and Seattle, pitchers parks on a regular basis
His numbers will regress the moment he leaves Coors, and we'll be paying the price of Coors inflated numbers
But seriously we need a pitcher first and foremost, debating about the OFers out there is fine, but certainly secondary at this point
