No surprise here, just got a text from ESPN. Nathan Horton is done for the remainer of the series with a "severe" concussion.

Mike Murphy needs to react quickly and strongly to set an example of Rule 48 infractions.

I won't hold my breath though...

Because it wasn't lateral or blindside? Still was a cheap shot hit to the head which needs to stop. Let me rephrase then...

Mike Murphy needs to react quickly and strongly to set an example of players who have zero fucking respect for each other type of infractions.

/17 games for Cooke and cheap players still haven't learned. Go figure...

thats better lol

the thing about it is Rome was concussed this year and has been in the past too by dirty hits so you would think he has that empathy built into his game

/and I wouldnt categorize Rome as a "cheap" player ...i think he was trying to stand his man up at the blue line BUT ROME IS SOOOOOOO FUCKIN SLOWWWW that it took him about 20 seconds to deliver the hit

He circled back, you cant call that completely north/south. you can see he was aiming high the whole way through from the replay on nhl.com's homepage.

is there a specific stated rule regarding checking to the head that doesnt involve the aspects of rule 48 ?(ie blindside and lateral)

this morning they were saying on the radio there isnt and this is something the Shanahan panel on player safety will work towards introducing in the offseason

There are loopholes everywhere. just like you are arguing it is not blindside, that can be considered an illegal lateral check to the head.

I didn't mean Rome was cheap or dirty. In general terms, all players need to learn. I am all for a hard hitting physical game, grew up in the 70's watching the Flyers (they were always on the game of the week)...

But it simply needs to stop. I honestly don't know what it will take to get the message through. A season long suspension perhaps?

I am assuming Rome may be done for the rest of the series, is Hamhuis close or is Ballard in?

Just makes me sick... the trade off. Such bullshit. They better get this suspension right and have it go well into the reg season next year.

No chance of that happening, in my opinion. Even the so-called experts were calling for 1 game (Blob McKenzie), Chicken Parm said two games, I think he should be gone for the rest of the playoffs.

No way this goes any further than that.

no ... Hamhuis is toast ... he travelled with the team but he hasnt even skated since the injury ... initial speculation was high ankle sprain but new rumor is its broken ribs

Ballard will probably come in ... they will have to re-jig all their d pairings and it might make more sense to take Alberts out and play Ballard Tanev as a bottom pairing ... although thats asking alot of a rookie

It's a nice problem to have, so many d-men to plug into the line-up.

I understand the Bruins fans wanting revenge, i'm just hoping nobody else gets injured on either side and it comes down to a Game 7. That would be fucking awesome...

And that is why this league is never going to get it right. This is their chance to get it right with the "new" guy. Unfortunately it would have to be Horty paying the price. But I know they are going to fuck it up. The leagues discipline system is a joke and always will be.

Which is why I truly hope we make the Canucks feel this forever by taking the series.

Maybe somebody other than the goalie should hit one of the twins? Or maybe he should do it more, it was the only place they weren't looking for it. They are just damn hard to hit squarely. Like little Datsyuks out there...

Besides the fact that it was a mild blindside, to the head, and very late, yes, it was totally clean.

all the "experts" are saying it was north south ... thus not rule 48 blindside ... therefore targetting of the head doesnt come into play ... check the nhl produced video i posted showing legal hits ... head shots are still not illegal on there own
