They made a mad rush to sign PFF's worst inside LB in the NFL last season, now they're lowballing PFF's best RT in the NFL last season. I think Mikey and Marvin are just showing spite for PFF.

That's also probably why Marvin was such a little bitch about PFF. They don't want to offer Andre the highest contract for a RT so it's more convenient for them to act like he's not.

I think Tits will be gone within 2 weeks.

I don't think he is gone until after the draft.

I don't know who in the hell will be playing RT in the coming season, but whoever he is, he'll be a downgrade. Dammit, they nursed Andre through his first two shitty years with his bad feet and weight problems, and now that he's ready to dominate for the next five years or so the dumbasses are going to lose him.

I don't think he can stay healthy for 5 years.

Unfortunately, its a lose-lose situation for us.
if we keep him, he gets lazy or injured.
if we let him go, he gets the motivation he needs to play better.

I don't understand why people magically think he is gonna get fat an lazy all of a sudden. He hasn't been either for 2 years. It's not like he hasn't been makin money, he probably made more money off his rookie contract than he will his new one.

he was playing for a contract.... duh!

give him the contract, and watch him turn to shit.
it's not magic, its basic psychology.

I don't understand it, either. Usually less than half the total contract is guaranteed. This isn't MLB.

HIS ROOKIE CONTRACT WAS BIGGER THAN WHAT HE WILL GET NOW. He isn't magically gonna play like crap and decide to be lazy after getting a smaller contract.

I think it's pretty common knowledge players play harder and are more wary of stats and such when their contract is coming due since they have more to lose (or gain). I think that's the point Dan is making. You sign Andre for 4 more years, who knows if he doesn't decide to put as much effort into his workouts for the first 2 years. Not that he might necessarily gain weight, but his production could drop in any case.

His rookie contyract per year would have been more than his new one, but they voided the last two years which is where he really started making his money on his rookie contract. He only made like 4 to 5 million a year last year didn't he?

So, our plan should be to drop any player instead of extending them because they might get lazy after a new contract? Good plan.

This.^ The only important thing here imo is he has proven the ability to dominate. Dominating players are the exception, not the rule. I'm not saying they should overpay him, but lowballing him when he has proven his talent, especially if your team is a bazillion dollars under the cap, makes no sense at all.

Sense and the Bengals don't collide very often.

Funny thing is you're the first to have said that. Nobody suggested not signing him. Read next time first before posting.

And not just "any" player. Andre Smith. You know, the guy that has a history of being lazy. And the same guy and the for the same reason other teams are steering clear of him at the current going rate.

You're an idiot. Both Dan and Crash expressed worries that he would start sucking after signing

Expressing worries and saying we should "drop any player instead of extending them because they might get lazy after a new contract" are 2 entirely different things.

While hoping we sign him, everybody should still be somewhat concerned.
