I say carter solely because his defense was better... It looks like their offense is pretty much a wash

Carter. Fisk had longevity, but Carter had a really good peak.

I'm biased as a Boston fan. That shot of Fisk waving the ball fair while hopping between home plate and 1B is one I doubt I will ever forget.

Can't knock people voting the other way if they aren't Red Sox fans as I am.

Do wonder how many Yankee fans are voting Carter rather than vote for ANY Red Sox player.

They're probably wondering why the choice given isn't between Thurman Munson and Fisk!

Compairing their numbers, I see that I have been underestimating Carter for years. I will try to stop that moving forward, as I see their numbers make them VERY similar. Still, my heart has me voting Fisk here.

It is unfortunate that we cant avoid thinking with our hearts!!! I assumed the question is who was the better player... not who i would rather have on my team to root for and who would be better in the locker room...

Where has Smarther been on this discussions? He may come across as an arrogant one, but he does provide with knowledgeable posts that make you think.

I say the longevity gives more value to Fisk.

That was so much bullshit, the ball was fair the minute it left his bat. He just wanted to make it look dramatic, just like Schilling and the so called bloody sock. Looks like bullshit artists reside on the Sox teams.

Carter was clearly the all round better ball player. Fisk was a Red Sox and they and the Yankees players always get more recognition.

What part was bullshit? You think Fisk knew right away the ball was fair? It's not like it landed in the Green Monster net, it hit the foul pole.

I voted for Carter, but if you think there is a big difference between the two and the only reason Fisk gained recognition was because he played for the Red Sox, you're an idiot.

It wasn't at all obvious when it left the bat.

That it had the distance WAS obvious but whether it would be fair or foul was much less so.

It ended up being fair by the smallest margin possible. Hence the waving before Fisk got to1B.

You know the ball hit off the foul pole, right? When a ball hits the foul pole, it's barely fair as we all know by inches.

For all those extra years though, Fisk only played 200 more games. He had a lot of seasons where he'd play under 100 games for whatever reason.

And for what it's worth, even with the 200 less games, Carter has a slightly higher WAR (using baseballreference's version). Carter had a huge advantage in defense which helps it.

Most of those sub hundred game seasons had to have been after he went to the Chicago Wrong Sox.

Don, "Gerbil," Zimmer who mis-managed the Red Sox during much of the '70s played Fisk far too often during his tenure.

That Fisk was able to play even that many games/year with Chicago after the abuse he suffered under the moron I called "Zon Dimmer." is a credit to his durability.

Excluding his first 2 years where he was a Sept callup and his last season where he was washed up at age 45, Fisk had 6 other years where he played less than 100 games...3 were with Boston and 3 were with Chicago.

Fisk averaged 118 games with Boston in his 8 seasons as an everyday player, and just twice in those 8 seasons he played more than 135 games...how do we conclude he was abused from that?
