Love the idea steveringo, I'll chime in.
I say carter solely because his defense was better... It looks like their offense is pretty much a wash
It is unfortunate that we cant avoid thinking with our hearts!!! I assumed the question is who was the better player... not who i would rather have on my team to root for and who would be better in the locker room...
That shot of Fisk waving the ball fair while hopping between home plate and 1B is one I doubt I will ever forget.
That was so much bullshit, the ball was fair the minute it left his bat. He just wanted to make it look dramatic, just like Schilling and the so called bloody sock. Looks like bullshit artists reside on the Sox teams.
Carter was clearly the all round better ball player. Fisk was a Red Sox and they and the Yankees players always get more recognition.

I say the longevity gives more value to Fisk.
For all those extra years though, Fisk only played 200 more games. He had a lot of seasons where he'd play under 100 games for whatever reason.
And for what it's worth, even with the 200 less games, Carter has a slightly higher WAR (using baseballreference's version). Carter had a huge advantage in defense which helps it.
Most of those sub hundred game seasons had to have been after he went to the Chicago Wrong Sox.
Don, "Gerbil," Zimmer who mis-managed the Red Sox during much of the '70s played Fisk far too often during his tenure.
That Fisk was able to play even that many games/year with Chicago after the abuse he suffered under the moron I called "Zon Dimmer." is a credit to his durability.
