Jon Cooper was secretly on the meeechegan payroll for 13 years!

I'm telling ya! The guy could recruit, and seemed to be able to win a TON of games, but just couldn't beat Michigan. I remember back about 10-12 years ago seeing that his recruits were all over the place in the NFL.

Even the one NC was split. So half a NC.

Michigan got a hunk of wood from the AP, but Nebraska got a crystal football.

Every team has their struggles at some point, whether it is within the conference or being ranked high and losing in the big games or NC games. But other than winning Big Ten titles, Michigan hasnt really been in NC games either for awhile other than that 1 title or 1/2 title lol. Ohio St was overrated in the 90's. But when you have one great decade or 15-20 it kinda makes up for it in a way. Ohio St 2 national titles, 4 appearances in less than 12 years is pretty damn good. Michigan has never had a great decade or run since 1950.

Not as lopsided as you might think. From 1974 to 1999 the Bucks are 9-16-2 That was with Cooper going 2-10-1. Tressel owned UM. Now it's Urban's turn. I do hope Hardnuts can at least make it competitive.

That math doesn't seem right if the series is 20-19-1 since 1975 and tOSU is 12-3 since 2000.

I watched the games, and really didn't expect Michigan to win several of them. Ohio State had some STUD players back in the 90's. Although Michigan wasn't too bad themselves, especially in the early 90's and '97.
That's why you can't say they were overrated. The coach sucked on game day. But he knew how to put a team together.

That is true! Since 2000, Ohio State has had an incredible run.

But I wouldn't count NC games in your mix either, unless you are just talking about the past 18-20 years. Until the BCS was created, you didn't have a national title game. In 1997, the #1 and #2 teams didn't even play in a bowl game.

The original post was about being overrated when looking at National Titles. By definition, when you are the #1 or #2 (or even top 5 IMO), you are likely getting votes as the favorite for the national title. Ohio State saw the #1 or #2 position at least a few times in the 90's, without at title to back up the rating. Thus overrated.

Don't I know. Nebraska was turrible in the 1940's and 1950's. They are down somewhat now but they're still winning 9 or 10 games, so it won't go down in history for being near as bad.

The losing seasons in 2004 and 2007 were an anomaly.

Oh there's no doubt he could recruit. Alotta his former players got the NFL. He just choked when the spotlight was on. Not only was he only 2-10-1 vs. UofM his bowl record was 3-8.

Is he still in football? I often wondered if he would have started again someplace else if he would have had more success, or if he simply was unable to get over the hump of big games.

We can't compete on paper with these two schools, but will see BOTH of your schools soon enough.

We at OState will travel anywhere, anytime and against anybody that wants a game.

I think you got a great coach in Anderson. That's the only way to really improve your system, and I have little doubt that Anderson can do it at OSU.

He never coached again after Ohio State finally fired him. Somehow he got into the cfb HOF back in '08.

The 1997 'title' was also a joke. Shouldn't even count.

HOF? He had a BUNCH of wins in Columbus in his tenure, but I wouldn't think enough to get into the HOF (although maybe it is pretty easy). Where did he come from before coaching in Columbus?

Then Ohio St has been pretty good at making NC games lol. 18 years. 2 titles, 4 appearances. not too shabyy, could be better.

Idk, they were ranked #1 in the AP for quite a while IIRC. I actually thought Michigan deserved both trophy's myself, but I am biased. It sucks that they didn't have the BCS back then. That would have been a CRAZY good game!

No doubt, although I don't think I would brag about those NC title appearances. Lot's of fans outside the B10 would say they didn't deserve to be there, and they would point to the scores of those games as proof.
