Maybe you and Randy should start a Californians for Hillman club. ;)

Lol!! That's a great idea. CFHC. We would, however, have to create a new branch by midseason for all of the non-Californians who will undoubtedly be banging on the doors of our new CFHC Hall beseeching us to let them join.

Brother.

First, bringing him back is ridiculous.

Second, hard to fairly judge anyone after the crap they put out there on the oline, and that stupid hybrid offense we used.

Yes, I'm aware those statements are contradictory, so shut yer pie hole.

I don't personally hate Hillman, he's probably a great guy. I think he's a liability at RB. I don't think I've ever heard of a guy coming off a SB winning team getting zero interest from the league. That's astounding. Trent Richardson got more love on the open market. I hope Hillman runs for 2000 yards.

Just takes one more position off the 'needs' going into the draft so we can go pure BPA. Good move elway

That's how teams stay competitive over the long haul. They draft BPA instead of trying to draft to fill holes. Teams who concentrate on BPA also rarely if ever reach for a player in the draft.

That to me has been one of the more exciting things with Elway at the helm is we can know in the 1st round especially he will take value over need. When we drafted Roby we already had Talib and Harris with a 3rd round pick used the year before on Webster. Helped us though have the best secondary in football with Roby added to the mix. Ray this past year with 2 already premier pass rushers on the roster. It helped us though have the best rotation of any team in the league coming after the QB and be able to weather Ware's injury without missing much of a beat.

This is why to me even with us possibly having our starting 5 on the OL or our starting 3 on the DL I don't think those positions can be ruled out by any means. Added depth and allow a player to build for a year to become a big time starter seems to be how this team operates. Draft players a year ahead so that they have a year to prepare.

This is really not the year to get a rb in the draft, it has been very noticeable how strong the free agent rb market was.. Just look how aggressive Miami was going after CJ. Elliott keeps rising higher, as much because of what else there is in the draft. I continue to believe there is little value in the early rounds, certain to be some late rd gems and you may see some real surprises as teams push up unknowns.

Too tall ... Too big.

He will take a lot of big hits. Injuries probably inevitable even if he develops. Prototype I look for is first and foremost ability to maneuver in the hole, Forte was best I've ever seen evaluating college backs in new era which is why I was so high on him. Top end speed isn't really as important. 4.5 4.65 is fine if football quickness good. Next is what happens on contact ... Some guys crumple on contact, even big guys, that is a bad sign. Then body type prefer 5'10-5'11 210-220lbs... But 5'8 5'9 is fine as long as they have some bulk power. If weight not up to par need burst aka Portis.

Basically this is what I've learned watching Turner evaluate and churn out gems year after year. Tall backs get high exposes them to injury hits or fumbles. There are guys I've been high on like Murray but you see the issue with him always dinged. I don't like Henry nearly as much as I did Murray so 2nd rd would make me unhappy. Marshawn lynch is who I think of as a perfect rb for our system and I really loved him coming out became a different back than I thought... Far more electric in college.. Dickerson-esque but he went power and yeah if a guy like Henry had that type of mentality maybe, but often they become t rich l white ... NFL lb hits just shatter these guys stay low hide behind line then recognize cutback and burst through line, any hits should come to the side and allow rb to fall forward... And there you have the essence of a zone 4-5yd run, if special they'll break tackles and bust some of those.

Hillman blows and we need to do better. He should be our 3rd RB at best. I don't have a problem with a 1 year deal to compete though. I am waiting for him to blow up so we can all shut up. Just don't see anything in him yet. Everyone keeps saying he had a few good games last year, yeah he had maybe 2 good games, we need more then that out of our running back.

The thing for me with Hillman:

Has improved every year
Complements CJ well
Is still very young (just 24)
Is a cheap 1 year deal

We should be trying to bridge ourselves to next year because next year's RBs make it tight in the pantaloons if you get what i'm saying

Plain and simple we need to get better production out of the backfield then last year.

Bring in a guy like Smallwood and I bet he'd replace Hillman before long. Hillman is a guy I don't have beef with on the roster, but I don't want him starting getting a lot of carries. Last year we had to depend on him too much and he failed big time.

We need to get better.

CJ needs to stay healthy and play better too. When CJ played well last year we could beat anyone. (Pats, Packers, Panthers games he brought the boom)

Hopefully what appears to be an improved/healthier OL will help our run game more then anything.
