Ronnie Hillman will be back, at least for 2016. I see a lot of value in bringing him back, and that's coming from someone who's been a critic of this guy. I just hope Kubiak stops trying to run him up the middle! He's lethal around the edges, pitiful up the middle! But with the changes to the line, and a new QB, I think two backs who know the system is important. Add a guy in the mid round of the draft and maybe a fullback late or undrafted FA (Kubiak hinted at wanting a FB) and the ground game will be set to thrive in 2016.

RB Ronnie Hillman re-signs with the Denver Broncos

Hillman is one of the better backup running backs in the NFL.

Definitely like the fact we were able to get him for 1 year. He was frustrating at times last year last year with his inability to get past the LOS, but he did make more than a few game changing plays and averaged 4.2 YPC. Good signing IMO.

He is also a better pass protecter than CJ, but not as good a receiver as CJ. If Hillman learns how to exploit the Kubiak offense by becoming a much better receiver -he could be a major plus. I've always liked him - and he is only 24.

Yay! And in your face all you Hilman haters! ;) 4.2 yrs per carry and he really only had that one 70+ yd td run so most of the rest of his yds were up the gut and sweeps. 7 tds almost 800 yards.. How many starting rbs finished better than that and he split carries. He was a no- show in playoffs though. All that said though,I think Bibbs or draft pick will steal his spot.

We're talking yards per carry ??

2015-16 Playoffs

32 carries, 54 yards = 1.6 ypc

Super Bowl 50

5 carries, 0 yards

You definitely can't overlook that. I am baffled at how many times they would run Hillman up the middle. It rarely resulted in anything better than 2nd and 8, and often was a loss. He was great outside the tackles and if he got the corner he could take it.

Another knock on him was that mental mistake in not jumping on the lateral pass in the AFCCG. NEVER allow a play to come down to the referee's decision. A guy who's been playing football as long as Hillman has should know that by now. If it's close, assume it's a live ball. He quit on that play, but in the end that didn't matter. Hopefully he's looking at the film of that play and reminding himself not to make that mistake again.

I think I mentioned his lack of production in postseason. Of course he did nothing to help Denver in the regular season to help them get there and Carolinas defense was ranked at the bottom too. Gosh, what was I thinking? Thanks Spirit.

No one's arguing that Hillman is better than Anderson but Hillman had really great games in week 4, 6, 11, & 17 and pretty good games in week 8, 12, & 16. So for 7 out of 19 weeks he was at least good and sometimes great, and I didn't count the games where he was just average.

If he was our #1 RB I'd be worried but considering he's our #2 he put up good numbers. If Anderson could play a full season and not take the first 7 weeks off things would be better but until he shows that he wants to play a full season Hillman is a good #2.

I hope I didn't give the impression that Hilman is or ever will be better than a # 2 rb because he isn't. He still deserves more credit than some of these Yahoo's for filling that # 2 role that he gets. Not to mention he did a damn good job in pass pro for a little guy the last two yrs also. Some guys just want to hate cause it makes them feel good.

Cheap deal with very little guaranteed money. I would say that is a decent deal for the Broncos. I do think the league showed how much they value Hillman in the fact that the guy who backed him up all season got a lot more offers for a lot more money than him. Still the Broncos re-signed a guy that did produce decently behind a terrible OL and did finally show some of that home run skill that we had been waiting for. Maybe another year in the system and we see him finally seeing the ZBS holes that open up on the back side for him to hit. Also this does help whoever our QB is knowing they have 2 RB's that both played in this system and know what they are doing.

Just takes one more position off the 'needs' going into the draft so we can go pure BPA. Good move elway

I get where your coming from Doc but I wouldn't necessarily say it takes Denver off the need category with rb. I still not sure I trust in CJ to come in healthy/ in shape and even if he did and he went down early, I think Denver would/could be in trouble with the other backs. We don't have a guy on roster that I think could fill CJ's role.

I'm glad we signed him. The "Hillman Haters" are going to be glad also, before the season is over. You heard it here first.

Maybe you and Randy should start a Californians for Hillman club. ;)
