6 sacks in 2012 and 7 sacks in 2011

The guy ran a 4.64 40 time when he came out of college!

This was someone I wanted the Seahawks to sign last off season! With his acl injury this will most likely be a Bennett/Avril like short term deal

Seattle would be perfect for Melton because we already have Mebane and Mcdaniel in place. So he wouldn't necessarily need to rush his recovery process

Also...really hoping we get Thurmond back. I'm perfectly fine with Sherman, Maxwell and Lane but if any of them goes down with an injury then we're extremely thin.

was a running back at Texas. same as Lamar Houston (just left Raiders for Chicago).

He's a good player, wish he would go to the Cowboys.:becky:

Do the Cowboy's have the cap space to even consider it ? I know they dumped some guy's and re-did Romo's contract but is the money there at this point ? They were seriously hurting with the cap…

Good question. They have about $13.5 in cap space this year, at this point and they have a much greater need then the Seahawks do, when it comes to their DL this year.

Cowboys went into the offseason needing to shed 15+ mil off the roster just to get under the cap. They were the most over the cap of all the NFL. They also have to have enough space for the draft class.

I don't see how they can do it, but Melton's situation is unique because of the ACL. Especially a lineman with a ACL.

My hunch without looking at their cap is that the only way they could do it is if they signed him to a multi year deal. Back load the deal so the cap hit isnt bad this year. Do the Jerry Jones way and keep pushing your problems into the future. Pretty much anti Schneider who is likely looking at him on 1 or 2 year prove it type deal.
I guess it comes down to what is more important to Melton. a larger/longer more guaranteed contract or a chance to bet on yourself, have a good shot to get a ring and get a bigger contract later.

Seattle is in much better position to take a chance on a guy who had a significant injury than Dallas. Those guys need to right their ship. They just can't have money tied up on players that don't pan out if he has more issues this year.

Your right Wizard, but you never know what Jerry Jones will do.

Guess who is the "cap guru" for the Cowboys? Jone's son. :laugh3:

They had to cut a bunch of players and restructure the Romo, Lee, and Scandrick which kicked the can down the road a bit.

But right now, they are about 7 mil under the cap, but still got to commit some of that for the draft and keep some space available for preseason stuff. They still had to lose Ware and Austin to get even that much space available. The space saved by Austin isn't even available for them to use until June 1st and a lot of that thus goes to the draft.

Is that why we differ in what they have in cap space? When I checked spot trac it said 13 million in cap space for the Cowboys.

Probably a post June 1 cut or however that works. I know the Niners are doing the same with Carlos Rogers. Not quite sure how that all gets sorted.

Not sure what the final tally for cap space for Cowboys will be, but they definitely need DL help more than Seahawks. Jerry has his own self to blame, being a terrible GM, overpaying old guys for years. I know Melton is a risk coming of the injury, but sure hope he goes to Cowboys. Then again, might be better for his career if he went to Seahawks. Guess we'll see what happens.

That Seahawks D is strong. Man yall get a good one to root for.

I have no doubt Jerry will overpay. Should be hilarious when the ESPN link pops up with some 5 year $35M deal lol.

Melton played extremely well in '12, and ad you guys know he was injured last season... And sorely missed by the Bears. If he wasn't injured the Bears would have signed him.

Great pick up for you guys.

Adam Schefter and others reporting that Henry Melton will sign a multi year deal with the Cowboys.

This means one less suitor for Jared Allen as Dallas no way has the cap room to sign both.

True but I don't think his ego will let him sign a team friendly contract. Hope I'm wrong.

I am growing impatient with the off season. I know it's "In Pete and Schneider We Trust" and we gotta give them a chance to work their magic but I really wanted Melton.

Oh well let's see what they do with Jared Allen and the draft before we pass judgement

I think the entire NFL just let out a sigh of relief that Melton is not going to Seattle. Inside pressure is one of the hardest things to find in the NFL. Don't get me wrong Allen is a good choice as well but Melton could have made that interior DL even more deadly than last season if he is healthy.

I think the allure of playing close to home and his relationship with Marinelli was to alluring to him. Not sure what the numbers on the deal are but it seems like Seattle didnt have much of a chance unless they overpaid which wasnt happening.

depends on the report you listen to. Some say it is a 1/$5M fully guaranteed, others say it is less than $1M guaranteed and the rest are playing time incentives. :noidea:

Probably get more info this afternoon when the league approves the contract.
