Jerry and Stephen have hung their hat on at least winning regular season games the last 20 years, but when you stop and think about it, how much of even that is due to blind luck. They had an undrafted QB play at a near HOF level for 12 years...if they had a clue that he was anything close to that, they would have drafted him. Then they hit on a Pro Bowl QB with a 4th round pick. Same thing. So they had 2 different 4 year windows followed by a few years that they paid their guys but their money had not kicked in....so great QB play for next to peanuts for 12 of the 20 years. And zero playoff success ever. Dak has played with a HOF LT, a HOF Guard, a would have been HOF Center, a Pro Bowl WR, the best RB in the game for a 3-4 year period, and now a HOF receiver. His current defense has had a HOF player and several pro powler/all pro's. Now that really good QB is 32 and coming off his second season ending leg injury, and about to start his $240M deal. And they expect this playoff success to come with a gutted roster and far less talent around him than he has ever had, and a HC that no other team in the league is seriously considering. And Stephen already saying FA is going to be "tight", when half the 7-10 roster are FA's. While two other NFCE teams are playing in the NFCCG. Have things ever looked more bleak since Jerry bought the team and went 1-15?
No. It’s pretty bad. Death by Jerrah. At 1-15, there was hope at least.

i didn't see hope in 89.
i remember thinking Johnson was going to trade Aikman and roll with Walch.
If memory serves, Jimmy wanted to trade Aikman. And when we drafted Emmitt, Jimmy's original target was James Francis, but fortunately the Bengals took him before we came up which led to us taking 22. Great Coach but a little luck never hurts

Very lucky there. Francis was a nice player, but not Emmitt

USA Today and others are having a field day with Jerry decisions and direction. Quinn doing what he did. Jourdan Lewis tweeted it best.."No way DQ left and immediately did this"

Gotta Love It Cowboy Fans
THIS messes with Jerry more than anything.

Sir Robin Of Camelot

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

So… the Fan (which for the uneducated is the flagship station of the team) floated Brian Schottenheimer into my inbox this afternoon.

I laughed.

Lewis will be a Commander next year. Probably Tank as well. We are like a one stop shopping center for DQ

I had forgot the trade Aikman part. I remember thinking it would be dumb.. I always felt back then that Aikman would eventually get them to a Superbowl. As soon as they drafted him I felt they would turn it around. I remember Theisman saying the Cowboys blew it when they drafted Aikman over Mandarich. Lol

I remember those fools like Spagnola saying that Harper was drafted to replace Irvin and I laughed at how stupid they were. I guess possibly they were worried about Irvins Knee.

I felt better in 89 than I do know.

The Cowboys were so close to greatest team ever status. Consider if three simple things happen...Jerry doesn't fire Jimmy in a drunken stupor, Playmaker doesn't suffer a career ending injury and the Cowboys draft Randy Moss. Dallas wins 2, 3, maybe 4 more during that era. Had the taken Moss, they would not have used THREE 1sts and a 3rd trading for Joey Galloway and Roy Williams. All that draft capital goes back to the Cowboys. We were that close. Instead, 30 years of futility

A lot of people also forget what they did to Jimmy Smith. Jerry totally screwed him over as soon as Jimmy was gone. Later on Smith turned into a legit #1. This situation always annoyed me so much
