Good news for hockey and whatever clubs they end up covering. The director of HBO sports called another series a "no brainer." Full story

The TV viability of hockey seems to be growing - HBO doing another series and ESPN interested in a future TV deal.

Like I said, lots of good news for hockey! :)

I wonder if they will do it with the two teams meeting in the Winter Classic next year, or if they want someone besides Pittsburgh. :D

Blackhawks seem like a no brainer, Lightning, Stars, Flyers, Bruins all seem like teams I'd like to get up close to. Wings too, obviously.

It was a good show....I wasn't a big fan of Boudreau to begin with, but when he referred to the Pens as "those fuckin' pricks"....well.....lmao...

yep, definite no brainer. i think it would be cool to see a non-traditional warm weather team like tampa with a hot young player paired with a more traditional team with a wider ranging appeal. casual fans tuning in for the traditional power would see that there are more than 5-6 teams in the nhl.

I fucking loved it. But if another coach beat my team 5 times in a row in my own barn, I wouldn't like him either.

following the stanley cup finals would be fucking in-tense, but i don't think it would be possible as they would need at least a week to edit and produce the show, and in a 1-1/2 to 2 weeks series, may only get one episode in.

not sure if teams would let cameras in during the playoffs, but might be more likely now since this came off so well.

Let me guess. Cap's and Pens again. The NHL has other players/coaches in it too and just as entertaining. The NHL misses the boat again. There marketing sucks..

No wonder they are fifth in a four hours race'

Blackhawks said in an interview they'd be interested in being filmed throughout the stanley cup playoffs, if they make it. I think thats a bad idea myself. Preseason and WC, good idea... Playoffs, too much is on the line.

They should do it for the playoffs and follow a few a teams

Word. I'm not sure how many teams will be interested in that, but it would be awesome to follow a handful of the projected "contenders." It's so hard to predict who will get hot, not to mention who will make it at all, but I think that we have a good chance of at least catching one of the finalists by following the Wings, Aves and Canucks out of the West. The East would probably be the NHL's golden teams in the Capitals, Penguins and Flyers. A lot of the existing fans might be tired of seeing the big three in the East, but they do draw fans.

Maybe they could even cover the Thrasher and Lightning in the Summer Classic roller hockey game!

I highly doubt it. First off, knowing HBO, they explored that storyline and will be thristy for something else. Second, they may frame it again for the Winter Classic (they don't know yet), which would be unlikely to have either of those teams involved next year.

Quite the opposite - the NHL hit the mark this year, and because it was successful and compelling, it should lead to more opportunities for other teams.

Agreed...they had to start somewhere....OV and Crosby (Caps and Pens) were an easy choice....

I like this idea. Especially because it gives them a chance to show the fact that, just because a guy like Stamkos or St. Louis is playing in a non-traditional market, it doesn't mean that they (the players and staff that is) are any less passionate about trying to win.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dallas either, just because of their success as a non-traditional team.

That and because I hate them so it would give me an excuse to yell at the TV :D

I agree completely. I think it was great for hockey and a behind the scenes of what they go through was kewl as hell...I say do it again for the next classic, there's no reason it needs to be so soon
