The Seattle Seahawks traded offensive guard John Moffitt to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive end Brian Sanford on Monday -- according to CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora. A two-year veteran, Moffitt started six games for Seattle in 2012, while Sanford spent much of last year on the Browns' practice squad.

For an UDFA from Temple who spent half of last season on the practice squad and might not of even made the 53 man cut on the Browns this year? A situational run stuffer who was buried behind at least four other DEs in Cleveland on the depth chart. For our 3rd round draft pick of 2011 and started in 15 games?

:wtf2:

Yeah, I don't get this trade.

I think we are freeing up a roster spot on the Oline. That's it.

Pass rush is still the glaring problem with this team right now.

I guess, but I don't see this guy contributing much.

I agree on the first part. They are probably clearing room for the two rookie lineman Bailey and Bowie. As for the DE in the trade, I don't think that he will make the team and they probably know that but you have to take something in deal that don't cost any money to cut.

He was great on the Rob Report but he sucked on the field. As far as the o-line goes:

Clearing up a roster spot , no doubt. Not sure it's for the OL yet.

Moffitt was a cool guy if not a little strange. He just wasn't pushing Sweezy a converted DT and that says more than anything. This was a move to allow Seattle to get out of his contract and thats what it comes down to. There are a lot of young guys ( rookies) playing well on the line this preseason and it allowed them to make this move. The more they open up the cap space the easier it is to sign Thomas/Sherman etc etc.

Moffitt liked to talk a lot but i think he made others around him uncomfortable lol.

I think it's because they want to keep Mike Rob and Ware. Most of our linemen that are backups can play multiple spots, so it allows us to keep one less linemen. So, they trade Moffitt and at least get to see a guy in return for a couple weeks, instead of just cutting John.

Actually, if I'm am reading this correctly, if they cut Moffitt it would have cost the Hawks $159,375 this year and next. Where if they cut Brain Sanford, it costs us nothing. I could be reading it wrong, and the Hawks may still be on the hook for the money anyway, but at least Moffitt doesn't end up in the NFC, or more specifically, the NFC West.

I have heard that Cleveland has nixed the deal due to concerns with his knee. Sources say we are trying to ship him to Denver right now.

Yep. Lots of reports saying it is a done deal, although this one could be nixed too if Denver isn't happy with the results of Moffitt's physical there either. We'll see.

I am not sure who Moffitt pissed off, but the Hawks certainly don't seem to want him at all. One trade falls through and another is done instantly. Moffitt was a character, but we need a football player. I wish him well...where ever he ends up.

It's become apparent that he wasn't going to make the roster and they're just trying to get something for him while they're still getting offers. I just hope there aren't any more issues with his physicals.

It may be that they were trying to get out of his contract more than anything, because we certainly are not getting much in return.
