Seven Washington Redskins assistants remain - ESPN

Those who are still around: defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, secondary coach Raheem Morris, defensive line coach Jacob Burney, offensive line coach Chris Foerster, assistant offensive line coach Chris Morgan, running backs coach Bobby Turner and tight ends coach Sean McVay. It's possible that a couple of these coaches stick around with a new regime.

I believe that Burney and Foerster are Shanahan lackeys, aren't they?

I'd like the new redskins coach to retain Bobby Turner, who is awesome.

Haslett was kept? That's ridiculous.

Can anyone explain?

Did anyone read Sundays front page WP article??? There is a report in it intimated that Hasslet might not have been in control of this defense, but had to bear the brunt of the public vitriol. Here's the section of the article that I speak of.

"This wasn’t the case for the defense. Shanahan, in his second year into the job, began sitting in on coaches’ defensive meetings. According to a former coach, staff members stormed out several times, furious after Shanahan had changed that week’s defensive game plan.
Haslett, the defensive coordinator and a former NFL head coach, also had part of his play-calling duties on the defense usurped by Shanahan, according to two coaches and a veteran player. "

It is possible that Hasslet, not being unwise to the game reported this to Allen and/or Snyder realizing the the tone had been set for the eventual crash.

How ironic would it be if Haslett ended up keeping his job through all this?

I don't get the WP here (god, I miss it) but I thought I read a WP online blog earlier today that suggested that at the coachs' meetings, Mike deferred to Kyle.. something along those lines. Now that doesn't necessarily mean out-and-out nepotism, but it does suggest that Haslett's concerns might not have always been on the front burner.

The article you are referring to suggested that Mike Shanahan would be "more likely" to give his son the player he anted, due to self-preservation of the Shanahan name, then give Jim Haslett. It didn't mention actual acquiescing to his son's wishes.

I probably should have been more clear. The way the article read, it seemed like Kyle did more of the talking. That's what I meant by 'deferred'.

The Cowher and Haslett connection makes sense. Why else would they keep Hasslett? This could be interesting.

Here is what Cooley said yesterday. He felt Mike was more hands on with the D then he needed to be. He said Shanahan would question moves Haslett made during a game or sometimes suggest the D blitz on a particular play. Now that could be bad or he being the head coach and in charge of all aspects of the team he has that right.

Ask yourself this dad, why did Haslett sit in the press box all year? Why was Morris brought in 2 years ago? He is an Allen guy, not a Shanahan guy. Why was AJ Smith brought in? I am not suggesting I know because I surely don't. The level of dysfunction this year in my mind is not only Shanahan's fault. What I do think is this is what happens every 2 to 4 years in Washington with Snyder as owner. What happened doesn't matter as much as will it happen again? That is the elephant in the room. Is it over with Shanahan's dismissal or will it happen again in a couple of years?

well i think when Rg3 got hurt vs the seatle seahawks the beginning of the end had started. perhaps when he started troubleshooting the Dc it was irking the staff and players and it got back to the FO , hence you see the morris move and the smith move

my assumption being he did that from day one
