This is all just nonsense. He suffered a concussion which has nothing to do with being soft and it is 100% out of his control whether he is able to return from it. It's also a little weird to imply that you care more than the players because you are willing to risk their health.

I'm saying fans don't always realize the risks these players are factoring into every decision a player makes. Such as winning this next game means a ton to Seahawks fans and I am sure harvin cares too but he could also be thinking since he has had so many head issues it is worth waiting a week. Another player might not make the same decision. It doesn't make him soft just means he is thinking through more of the future ramifications.

I misunderstood then. In either case, I don't think it was up to Harvin. I doubt it is that easy to fake your way through the test in the NFL's current climate. And let's be honest, he'd be a fool to risk the rest of his career to play in an NFC Championship game. This is his living.

Hate to see a guy go down like that because of injuries, but I have to say the 49ers are very lucky he's not playing. They don't have anyone who can cover Harvin. Really fast, talented receivers have taken the Niners to the wood shed a few times lately. Julio Jones defecated on Tarrell Brown in the NFC Titile game last year; Steve Smith had a good game on Sunday...

Harvin was the one guy about whom I was most worried (except Wilson of course; that guy is like a cat escaping pressure). It's still anyone's game, but I like the Niners' chances a LOT more now.

Julio jones and Steve smith are both a hell of a lot better than Harvin. Just saying...

I agree. Harvin has become a little overrated due to the high price Seattle payed for him. The Packers played him twice a year for years and even with their crappy secondary I never went into a game worried about how they could contain Harvin. Rice was usually more of a concern. He's a great #2 receiver and a pretty good #1. Obviously he'd be a GREAT addition given their depleted receiver corps, but he's not normally a guy who is going to take over a game on his own.

True, but Harvin can be pretty dangerous the few times he's upright and in a game. Especially when he returned kicks.

He's taken too many big hits for a guy who's only 184 pounds.

I just love hearing how easy it is to come back from a concussion from people who have likely never had a concussion.

Love it.

I've had ~10 grade 3 concussions and more than I can count of lower grade ones. I played through all but the severe ones and lied and faked my way back early from the grade 3 ones.

One of Troy Aikman's last moments in the NFL...

He was playing the Eagles at home his last year and he'd gotten whacked really hard. He was sitting over on the sideline sniffing smelling salts trying to clear his head.

And getting no reaction.

They may as well have been air fresheners.

He wasn't doing that thing where his head snaps backwards. He was just deeply inhaling and looking around, then inhaling again.

Man...soft was Shaun Alexander who always avoided hits. Soft is when players don't give it their all on every play.

Percy is anything but soft. If anything the guy just goes too hard all the time and that's why he gets hurt so much. Can you fault a guy for going 150 % on every play?

He hasn't been healthy for us this year but when he does come back I would rather have a guy with a motor like that with his skill set then a guy who constantly takes plays off or only turns it on when he wants to

The NFL has strict procedures about concussions. I don't for a second believe that it has anything to do with Percy not wanting to play. As for the trade, I don't think it was a stupid trade, but it was a risky trade, but really, the risk was giving up a number one pick and a number three pick, but the Seahawks have a pretty young team now, so giving up some youth in the draft picks isn't so bad, and I think the way his contract is structured this year and next year he has the big cap numbers and after that it's more manageable.

I do. I don't care. I mock myself regularly and don't take myself seriously.

For the record, though, I have been thoroughly tested more than once since them and am firmly in the 95th percentile or higher in the parts of the tests that can meaningfully be compared that way and have shown no lasting effects on any scans or other type of testing.

My point was simply for relevance in the topic. You can pass off a concussion on the testing protocols currently in use.

It's been well reported that they have continued to advance the protocol and have made it substantially harder to fake your way through it. It isn't as easy as just dumbing down your answers up front and then giving the best answers later or any of the other methods of trying to fool them. According to most reports the testing is so sophisticated that it isn't possible to just cheat it. They know the players don't want to sit out and are doing what they can to get back on the field.

We don't know your past, but if you are not a current NFL player this year that has gone through the current protocol then I call :bullshit: on your claim. You simply don't know what you are talking about.

they started having more concussions when they narrowed the shoulder pads. All these stupid new helmet designs don't do crap

It was pretty recently and with the most advanced protocol available with a highly rated specialist in the field. I have no doubt that they have advanced things some, but I have seen the information there is to see on concussion research and testing, and I highly doubt they have developed a legitimately unbeatable system in the past year or so.

That line brings to mind....
