Get over it.

Market price for a superstar player. You should be complaining about the 4 year 70 million dollar deals for role players. His is a relative steal. Harden puts fans in the stands. Players like him essentially subsidize the contracts for everybody else.

Why do this so far in advance? What if he shreds a knee a la Shawn Livingston in the next year or two?

As guys get more contracts like this while other vets are forced to take scraps, the player's union will be forced to change things in the next negotiations.

I wonder if they're trying to sell other players on coming to Houston. Or maybe Harden wanted to get paid before Chris Paul extends next year?

More likely getting paid before CP3. Paul is getting old though, a serious extension for him would be very wasteful. Can't see how this is going to sell players on Houston, as they're burning major cap space with one player.

Easy answer here.

Superstar contracts are the best team friendly deals out there because of the max. Yes, Harden could get hurt and this deal might look bad in a couple years. But, it is much more likely that he experiments with free agency when his deal is up.

The Rockets saw what happened to Indiana and LAC. They had a chance to lock up their franchise star and they took it. Great deal for them despite some mild risk.

I am the farthest thing from a Harden fan, so I see a lot more than mild risk.

I am not either. It is what the Rockets have to do though.

Lot of money for a guy that doesn't appear to have a competitive bone in his body.

These contracts will be handed out much more frequently with the new CBA. Say what you want about Harden but he carried Houston to the WCF and 2nd round in 2 of the last 3 years with a pretty avg roster at best.

And when it mattered he took 2 shots in an entire half and headed to the strip club.

Careful. Glass houses and all.

Any team with a legit superstar on the roster should resign them for as long as possible. This applies to Cleveland, Golden State, OKC and Houston.

You can't risk letting a guy like Harden or Westbrook walk if you have a chance to get them long term.

I am not a Russ fan, but if I were Presti (I know he is doing this already), I would be doing absolutely everything possible to get Russ to commit for as long as possible. It is a no brainer.
