hanson has incredible numbers for a 19 yo in low A ball.

one of them is 30. that is 30 errors.
having never seen him, it sure sounds as if he needs to move to the outfield and since he has speed, try CF.

he seems small. but a zillion XBH.

also, 15 CS. is he dumb, not have any ability to read the pitcher, or only sl above ave speed, but a greediness to run all the time.

anyone have any real info than my speculations.

He makes throwing errors but generally baseball guys think they can fix throwing mistakes. He'll stay at SS for the time being. He's got decent range and may make the shift to 2B later. OF is a possibility as well but I think he's young enough that most people would prefer to give him time to improve at SS.

Until he makes it clear that there is no chance for him to ever be able to play shortstop... they should keep him there... His bat and legs are just more valuable there...

The stolen base thing should get better as he matures and figures out how to read pitchers a little better... Half of it is or more than half of it is the jump you get off the pitcher.

Pretty much this, throwing errors usually relate to footwork problems. He might still have to move but no reason to do it now.

i dont know.
as an ex-pitcher, and seeing many play at the college level, either you throw acurately or you dont.
footwork shouldnt play that big of a deal.
at SS, footwork gets you to the ball and gets optimal hops to field, but you need to throw from all angles and balance.
also, the better your arm at off balance angles, the deeper you can play and more territory you can cover.

Throwing from all angles and being balanced in all situations comes through repetition. If you have bad footwork, you will never actually be repeating the correct action of throwing the ball to first. And it is almost impossible to be balanced if you have poor footwork.

Just like a pitcher who can't repeat their delivery, they will have a hard time getting the ball in the zone. It's the same deal with infielders.

Anyway, no reason to move him off short because it is much better to play a hard position for as long as possible than to move someone off too early.

Plus once they move him to a easy defensive position he loses a lot of value as a prospect...

I think they have to keep him there and hope he is one of those kids that just outworks everyone and overcomes the problems he has with his footwork... Plus range, plus arm.... Seeing as he is still a teen ager... I would not be panicing just yet.

Let him get his at bats and keep working on him in the field...
