Now they gotta resign him...I remember thinking that we needed at least one more d-man, and, him being a free agent, he was the first name that came to mind for me. Did have to trade Parent.

This is awesome, but this basically ensures we're going discount on a goalie again. Then again I do believe it was most of our third pairings failness that staggered us in our cup run...I guess we'll see what happens. Wouldve been nice to trade parent and a guppy to montreal for Halak though >=]

well does it really hurt us that much? remember rathje and his albatross contract finally is off the books, and with the increased cap he have a bit of room to work with

I wonder if Homer had permission to speak to Hamhuis' agent before the trade. I always liked Parent, but I don't think he has been healthy since year 1. Get Hanhuis signed and our d is now:

Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Hamhuis - Bartulis/Marshall.

I really like this. Can still trade Carter for a young Goalie and sign a free agent wing and stay under the Cap. Otherwise I think we could still be under if we got Ellis.

someone ran the numbers in another thread. i said what if we trade carter for bernier, sign frolov for 4 mil, sign recchi for 1.5 mil and sign hamhuis. he estimated hamhuis at 4 mil and we were still under the cap. even with coburn getting a raise. it can be done.

i think this means 2 things. either the flyers will trade for a young goalie, or sign a very cheap goalie. at least this means no nabokov most likely.

Yeah it does hurt because Rathje's salary wasnt a caphit. He was on LTIR so his contract being off the books doesnt change anything.

if we make a trade at the deadline it does. tim p said last season that since rathje was on the books, whenever we picked up a player mid season we had to take on the entire cap hit.

yea i did not understand it either. i know that if you trade for a person halfway through the season you only take on half his cap hit. apparently when you have players on long term injured reserve you take on the entire cap hit.

Scott, I don't know much about Frolov (contrary to what Supahmariotroll from the swamp thinks) but I did catch part of a team evaluation on sirius radio the other day. They were really bashing Frolov for his lack of work ethic. Basically said that he was very lazy and for all of his points ws a negative.

I would, however love to see Recchi back

If people give Carter a hard time, they'll really give Frolov a hard time. Frolov has some decent skills, but his skating looks very sloppy to me.
